The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.
FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING NOV. 4
Texas Outpost, 308 state Highway 72 E., Yorktown. Demerits: 34. Need labels on bags of ice. Keep melons, cheese and other foods covered in coolers. Keep raw meat below produce. Need to use appropriate date labeling system. Take appropriate steps to remove gnats and flies. Clean ice machine. Six facility or equipment violations.
Taqueria La Finca, 2640 W. Main St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 25. Hand sink for hand washing only. Don't use aprons to dry hands. Store raw meat below other food. Raw meat was next to cut up vegetables on tabletop. Need to use appropriate date labeling system. Need to drape up hose at three compartment sink. Three facility or equipment violations.
Angelica's Mexican Restaurant III, 444 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 23. Cover all items in coolers. Need to use appropriate date labeling system. Four facility or equipment violations.
Fastrak Express, 2004 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 13. Ice bags need labels. Three facility or equipment violations.
Speedy Stop No. 12, 2207 N. Highway 35, Port Lavaca. No hot water. The three compartment sink not turning on. Breaker was off. Two facility or equipment violations.
Family Dollar Store No. 2524, Yoakum. Demerits: 12. Improper cold hold temperature. Expired medications. Need current permit. One facility or equipment violation.
Longbranch Steakhouse LLC, 1000 S. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 7. Improper storage of raw meat in cooler. Store fish on top, beef in the middle and chicken on bottom. One facility or equipment violation.
Robert's Eatery and Bakeshop, 1504 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Boiled eggs were out of date. One facility or equipment violation.
Gingerbread School, 2202 Half League Road, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 5. Improper cold hold temperature.

Broadway Shell, 1326 Broadway St., Port Lavaca, inspected on Oct. 19, with 4 demerits. Re-inspected Oct. 31, with most critical violations corrected. Hot water heater replaced. Ice bags need proper labels.
The Texan, 526 W. Main St., Yorktown, inspected on Oct. 18, with 25 demerits. Re-inspected Oct. 26, continuing to work on violations. Will return for follow-up.
