A 9-year-old boy was injured in an auto-pedestrian accident on Mimosa Avenue on Wednesday evening.
About 5:30 p.m., Joseph Powell, 26, pulled out of a driveway in the 1500 block of Mimosa in an attempt to turn the green truck around in the driveway, said Victoria Police Officer Isaac Ramirez.
Upon leaving the driveway, the pickup hit the boy, who was on his bicycle.
Powell claimed he did not see the child, Ramirez said.
"He pulled out quick," said Carlos Valle, the boy's grandfather. "These people should've known better. They have kids."
Valle, who was sweeping his sidewalk when the collision occurred, said the sound of screeching tires prompted him and other neighbors to look in the direction of the truck.
It was then that they noticed a woman at the address pulling the boy from underneath the front-end of the truck.
According to Valle, the woman said the truck hit the back tire of the boy's bicycle, but the bike's twisted seat led Valle and others to believe that was not the case.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center.
"He's a pretty tough kid," said Valle, who said his grandson had a few scratches and a limp. "If he hurts himself, he won't tell you."
A hospital supervisor said the boy was treated and released.
Powell was given a ticket for driving without a license, Ramirez said.
This is not the first accident to occur on Mimosa Avenue.
Residents said motorists speed down the street all the time.
Almost two months ago, Lorinda Vega said her 11-year-old stepson's motorized scooter was struck from behind near the intersection of Mimosa Avenue and Azalea Street.
Vega said her family drove the boy to the hospital after police and EMS did not arrive.
She said he suffered a broken femur, tibia and shattered growth plate.
