The 27th annual Yoakum Country Crafts Show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Yoakum Community Center, 107 Huck St. More than 50 booths of all handmade items will be available, said event organizer Martha Faulkner.

The Yoakum Heritage Museum will have concessions for sale and other nonprofit organizations will have fundraising booths. The event is free. Door prizes will be given away every 30 minutes.

Mary Kliem surveyed the quilts, ornaments and sock monkeys on the shelves and racks at the Victoria Senior Citizens Center.

"What one hand can't do, you get 10 people and 20 hands and make a lot," Kliem said.

Kliem, along with about a half dozen other Busy Bee Quilters and Crafters, darted about hanging items and stocking shelves, prepping for Saturday's annual Christmas in November Arts & Crafts Sale.

The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 603 E. Murray St.

"The most exciting thing this year is we have more crafts," Kliem said. "We are normally quilters, but took Fridays and became crafters, too. We take donated items and create something out of them. We've got lots of items to go on a Christmas tree."

The popular sock monkeys will be at the sale, more than 100 of them, as will plenty of quilts, especially baby quilts.

Dorothy Kalmus, a fellow quilter, was proud of the stacks of pillow cases, pot holders and gift bags on one table.

"I made all of those," she said. "There's at least 200 gift bags, but I don't know how many of everything. A lot."

The event includes plates to go for $5. The meal includes sausage, German potatoes, green beans and sauerkraut.

In addition, a drawing will be held with tickets available for $1 each or eight for $5.

First prize is two sock monkeys, second prize is a king-size Afghan and two pillow shams and third prize is a table cloth, two pillow cases, an apron, two hot mats and two pot holders.

Non-winning tickets on Saturday will be eligible to win a barbecue pit that will be drawn for on Dec. 14.

The Christmas in November Arts & Crafts Sale is the senior citizens center's biggest fundraiser of the year, said center director Debra Garner.

"We hope to have a real good sale. We need the money," Kliem said.
