Health care insurance can be an expensive, time-consuming and frustrating part of running a small business.
The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center will host a video conference with the Texas Department of Insurance representatives to make sure small businesses are able to offer reliable coverage at prices they can afford.
The program is free, and business owners do not need to be an SBDC member to attend. Gabriel Arguello, Celtic Insurance Texas sales and marketing manager, will give the presentation.
Surveys show that most employees who have no health insurance wish they did, and most employers wish they could provide it to them.
Arguello will talk about Healthy Texas, a newly designed state health insurance product, during the seminar. The program was developed by the Texas Department of Insurance and helps small employers and their eligible employees have access to health insurance that costs an average of 30 percent less than comparable plans.
The Celtic Healthy Texas plans offer $25 copays, maternity, vision services and other features. The plans are for small employers with two to 50 eligible employees. Additionally, 30 percent of eligible employees must earn no more than $32,490 annually.
Small business owners also can qualify for up to a 35 percent Small Business Health Care Tax Credit.
"This will be a good program for small business owners who are concerned about providing health insurance for employees but who have hesitated due to the high costs," Interim SBDC Director Joe Humphreys said. "This will help business owners decide if providing health insurance is the right decision for their company."
Those planning to attend should register by the date of the event. To register or for more information, call 361-485-4485 or email Jean Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org.
