  • the place had horrible service and the portions didn't match up to the prices.

they should dump the food and re-open as a bar

  • Ate there once, the plate of food I got wasn't that good. So I went on a Thursday to get a steak, waited about 30 min, never got waited on. Left.

  • Maybe it lost popularity because they consider women stading on the bar delivering shots "family oriented".

  • We ate there once. Food was ok. Prices were high. Service-the worst in Victoria.

When served a combo BBQ plate that is over $12, I expect more than one boney rib. When I asked the server, she quite quickly responsed "I'm not the cook, talk to him", and walked away. When one of the owners came by "glad handing" his buddies and the same question was asked, he said "i'll bet it was a good rib" then rolled away.

Paid my $35 tab for two meals and two beers, and wished them well.

  • Edith Ann, something is TERRIBLY wrong when I have to pay MORE at a grocery store, let alone a barbecue restaurant, for beer manufactured an hour from here than beer manufactured in Mexico.

Jason, I understand you're a man on the GO! GO! GO! and you want your food RAT NOW. Fast-food joints are ubiquitous. And who needs those high-falutin' joints like, well, a barbecue restaurant because . . . because . . . aaah, I just can't keep a straight face with this anymore. Stick with the dried-out refried beans. Refried. Yeah, how many times?

  • Sorry, Lu Raq's... My Bad!!! Duh!

    November 22, 2011 at 5:57 p.m.
  • @jasonboume...La Ruc's, REALLY???

    November 22, 2011 at 5:44 p.m.
  • I know they were charging imported prices for Shiner beer.

  • Generally, when I go out to eat, I go to Whataburger. If I want to spend a lot of money for a little food, I'll go to some of these restaurants around town.

I don't need a waiter or white tableclothes or to sit around somewhere trying to eat for an hour. I'm a little different and like to get my food and go. Thats why I like Casa Ole's in the mall. Quick quick quick!!!

I drive all over town and in and out all the highways of this place (Victoria) and I've never seen La Ruc's.

  • I am sorry they closed their doors. What I know from starting a eatery business , you need to be able to hold your own for at least three years before making anything coming back in your pockets. I don't think it was location, I believe they had a Great location. Sometimes it seems easier than it is. I hope they have better luck with the Private parties/ect. I will miss another place to eat when visiting Victoria.

  • We ate there twice and were not happy with food, service or value. Were told and tried one more time. No change from first two visits so voted with our wallet.

    November 22, 2011 at 3:22 p.m.
  • If it was always packed and had good location, why did they close? Putting more money in than getting out sounds like something didn't work out, and I don't necessarily mean it was the owners fault. The location could be better. I think what got them is everyone liked it at first, good food, entertainment, and it was always rocking. The prob with that is once you set the bar so high it's hard to keep it there. People came but they didn't have the "hook" to keep them coming back.

  • The place was wonderful and the owners are great ppl it wasn't because of the location or because ppl didn't like the food the place was always packed besides the days of football games or no bands but other than it was a very family oriented place. The decision from the family that was made because of the fact they were spending more money in the place then makin the money because they were making sure the customers where always happy..so you ppl that don't know what a business is or how to run it keep ur mouth shut ppl..Lu raqs was apart of the owners life and it hurt them to shut the doors and hurt them to watch their employees go everyone their was family. Put ur feet in their shoes and see how it feels

    November 22, 2011 at 2:03 p.m.
  • They always had motorcycle get togethers over there. Maybe most people don't like eating with thugs and people all tattooed up.

  • jasonbourne - Did I miss much?
There’s a whole bunch missing if haven’t heard of this place or been there. Safe bet you’re missing a lot more.

This place, like many no longer in business that should be, are not out of business becasue of locatation or taxes, It's Victoria's people.

    November 22, 2011 at 1:22 p.m.
  • Well it must have been a great spot because I've been in Victoria for 44 of my 50 years and never heard of it until today.

    Did I miss much?

    November 22, 2011 at 12:33 p.m.
  • @ImRich: You're beginning to sound like a "poor little rich boy" nobody likes him! Give it up already. So there's a big chip on your shoulder, don't take your anger out on someone you probably don't even know.

    November 22, 2011 at 11:37 a.m.
  • I heard that Maximus is going to move into that location, and that is from a family member. This should be interesting.

    November 22, 2011 at 11:22 a.m.
  • Yet another cowardly comment by ImRich you are 2 for 2 let's give this individual a round of applause.

    November 22, 2011 at 11:16 a.m.
  • ImRich, what happens when restaurants like Lu Raq's closes is so simple poor people can understand: "If the customers don't come, you can't stop them"

    November 22, 2011 at 11:05 a.m.
  • It's a beautiful place, very well kept. The article states that it was a "family"decision to close. Why can't people just respect that instead of slinging all kinds of low-down dirty comments! Best wishes to them.

    November 22, 2011 at 10:58 a.m.
  • Food quality - lacking - Went there three times and never had a good meal.

    November 22, 2011 at 10:31 a.m.
  • Location, location, location.

    November 22, 2011 at 8:43 a.m.
  • ImRich the annexation has not even taken place just yet and probably will not for a couple of years. I am sure you have never had a business of your own and do not have any knowledge of what all it takes to run one. You are just another citizen expressing a cowardly comment.
