James Holbert earned high-series honors, Ray Polensky rolled his first perfect game and Trudy Wortham's bowling during the summer paid off in a great set.

Holbert, who competes in the Woodlawn Duo League, edged out another bowler for the top score. He rolled games of 233, 279, and 247 for an outstanding 759 total. A solid 8 pin in the 8th frame prevented a possible perfect game.

Polensky rolled his 300 game in Sundowner League play and finished with a 695 set.

Wortham was high for the women with games of 201, 225, and 243 to claim a 669 series in Sugar and Spice competition.

Glenn Mason was a close second in the high total with excellent games of 278 and 279 contributing towards a 752 set. He also rolled a 279-668 in another league.

Senior bowler Roque Estrada proved an old dog can still hunt with three consistent games netting him a 709 total. He bowled his big score in spite of a bad knee that he will soon have surgery on.

Another senior bowler, Joe Simmons was on target for a great 275 game on his way to a 648 set.

Other scores of note for the men were Larry Mikulec (250-692), Tony Bennett (259-687), Steve Dickinson (681/651), Randy Morris (256-681), Kenny Schupbach (675/649), Darryl Mergele (257-674), Bill Redding (667), Michael Conchola (666), Ramsey Martinez (651), Justin Glass (258-650), David Matthews (278), Kim Blake (258), and Bobby Rodriguez (257).

Lynda Mikulec posted the second high score for the women with a 237 high game helping towards a 637 set.

Ladies breaking the 600 mark were Pat Robles 624, Sharon Guinn, who had a great 257 game and 611 total, Lori Heil 609, and Rebekah Martinez 236-602.

Christine Speer 228-597, Susan Gomez 593, and Judy Reyna 224-594 were other good scores.

Century youth bowler Rachel Wortham followed in her mother's footsteps with a great 266 individual game and 614 set.

Vera Cruz bowlers of the week are Roque Estrada 766 and Trudy Wortham 756, both from the Sugar & Spice League.
