It is the principle of the issue, not the political. It is hypocritical for a REPUBLICAN STATE REP to write a bill that orders doctors to perform Sonogram to appear and speak at a Local Tea party rally protesting the Health Care bill that order citizens to pay for health Insurance.

If you think I am wrong…fine. It doesn’t change a thing on how I feel. But maybe just maybe you should talk to some conservatives who have a problem with her. I have some conservative friends from this very forum who express displeasure over her policies. Maybe just maybe you should talk to them.
You said I am taking down the social justice road. I am for social justice. I am against the Good Ole Boys Network. I am against the domination of civic affairs of country club types.

I find it amazing that you Itisi defend the State Rep for being pro- higher education, but yet bash the President of the United States for being pro-higher education. Gee, Your true colors are coming out.

Sure single mothers can be help with education, but at what cost? How can they pay for college when THERE IS NO JOBS ???

What you are doing is defecting attention from the problem. I remember I was in college when HB3015 was passed. Over the semester or so, 3 credit class jump in price. From $300 to 500, that ain’t right. It isn’t right to hike college tuition because Texas A&M, which by the way gave money to her campaigns, and UT want it.

We've had this Morrison discussion several times and and I promised it would be our last but you keep comparing her legislation to the Affordable Health Care; and if you think it's a overreach problem; I can see the comparison(barely) but the Affordable Health Care Act is a piece of legislation that will affect everyone in United States, not just in the state of Texas.
And as I've said before, I doubt that many people in Texas know the name of Geanie Morrison. I agree with Riverboat, she can indeed introduce toxic legislation but it still has to go through a committee, debated and voted on. Then a majority of the 150 house members and 31 senators are needed for it to get to the governor for his signature. She is held in check but evidently her legislation met the approval of her party.

If you're trying to say, overtake the conservative republican state house, one Republican at a time starting with our district; I see your point.

As I've said before, Health Care was a priority for the democrats. It was mentioned in just about every debate. The president made withdrawing from Iraq and reforming Health Care his priorities, 69 million people approved and he was elected.

Bottom line, Victoria is a conservative republican county and they will vote that way but now a small piece of Nueces county is in the mix and; the results might be different. we will see what the results will be. I'm looking forward to it.

What's that we always say...We will just have to agree to
    disagree..:-)

BTW the Texas Tribune published those maps a few days ago, check it out.

  • Writein,
I'll add something else here, if you're an un-wed mother w/child, and you elect to go back to school the state will pick up the tab, including day/care, and a weekly gas card, Morrison had a lot to do with that, again I think you're wrong.

  • Writein,
so you're saying holding a 3.0 gpa in order to get a $1000 rebate is wrong?

What is wrong with having access to a 4yr degree and not having to leave Victoria?

Based on her record, she is all for higher education... So what is your real beef here? Why are you going down this social justice road? Your facts appear to be way off base w/Morrison. If you're looking for a cheap education, you get what you pay for... I think you're wrong...

  • Excellent post, Writein!

For some reason, the folks who abhor what Washingon does, seem to be perfectly okay when the very same stuff is going on in Austin, and even locally here in Victoria.

It is a little perplexing as to who the bigger hypocrite is--the politician or the voter.

But you are right on the money there, Writein.

She is a BIG DEAL. When she created the Crossroads Commission on Education, ask yourself where were the members from Lavaca, Dewitt, Jackson, Goliad, and Refugio’s counties? All of the members were her friends in Victoria County.

She is a BIG DEAL when she wrote and help passed HB 301, which hinders college degrees and creates more college drop outs.

She is a BIG DEAL, when earlier this year with the mess with A&M/UHV mess.

She is a BIG DEAL, when she is being a hypocritical for going to a local TEA PARTY event protesting President Barack Obama’s Health Care Bill and its rule for government intervening between doctors and patients, but yet wrote a bill that force doctors to preform sonograms on pregnant women. If it is wrong for DEMOCRATIC Washington, DC then it should be wrong for REPUBLICAN Austin to do the same. That’s right I said and I am Pro-life.

Here is my conclusion to this. An uneducated house wife has NO BUSINESS creating education policy for a state like Texas. Y’all keep on electing her because she is rich, conservative, and has an “R” next to her name.

  • She has one vote, and she can introduce legislation. That's kind of a big deal if you don't like the legislation she's introducing.

  • Rep. Hunter is a solid conservative leader. As the chairman of the Calendars Committee - one of the most powerful committees in the Texas House - having him as the state rep for Victoria could be extremely beneficial.

  • Let's see--

Morrison doesn't mind the will of the people being ignored...until it directly affects her.

Morrison says she has a record of getting things done--remember the UHV-TAMU-Texas Tech mess that is still somewhat hanging out there?

Morrison filed the bill to deregulate college tuition and was honored by the student loan LENDERS as Legislator of the year.

I hope her local campaign schedule is posted because I'd love to hear her 'pro-education' speech. Perhaps she'll highlight the accomplishments of the ever so successful Crossroads Commisssion on Education...
