Hello Victoria! It's October and the Art League has lots happening the next two months.

At our monthly meeting on Oct. 9, Belinda Kinkade will be talking about using the program PhotoShop to enhance and change your photography into works of art. The meeting begins at 2 p.m. and the demo at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend this informative meeting at 905 S. Bridge St.

This month we have our Fall Art Show competition coming up Oct. 14. We are inviting anyone over 17 to enter.

Later, in the spring we will have our Spring Art Show where adults and children will show and compete. There will be five divisions: painting on canvas, painting on paper, pastels/charcoal, photography, and pottery/sculpture. A prize of $100 will be given for best of show and $50 will be given for first place in each division. Entries will be accepted from noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 14, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct 15.

A reception and awards will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16.

Call the art league for more information between 1 and 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. We encourage all of you creative people out there to come out and show your stuff.

Next, on Nov. 12, we will have our second annual Holiday Market Day and kick off our month-long Bazaar. The Holiday Market Day was a success last year with booths filled by artists, crafts and other various gift items available for the public to purchase for the holidays. We thought having it earlier would give everyone a chance to shop earlier for some interesting and maybe unusual items for Christmas. Please put this on your calendar and come join us the second Saturday in November. You might want to come by and rent a booth to show your creations.

The Christmas Bazaar will begin with the Holiday Market Day where we will have gift items available at one of the booths and continue with the items on display for sale in our gallery until we close for Christmas.

We have been busy the last two months with members leading various workshops for other members to come work on art items to sell.

We have had or will have workshops in photography by Jim Feig (making sets of special gift cards), rock painting by Marie Frankson (painting animals and other subjects on rocks), quilling by Eva Cavazos (spiraling colored paper and creating ornaments and other items), pottery by Bill Bauer (small gift items), ornament designs by Candace Coyle, jewelry by Michelle Evans, hand painting ceramic ornaments and maybe ice candle making and others by Nov. 12. As you can see we have been and will be busy creating things for you to see and maybe purchase for a special gift for someone or maybe for that really special someone we have paintings, pottery, sculpture, jewelry and other artwork. Come visit us at the Art League and tell or bring a friend.

We are excited to have Dalhart Windberg, a well-known artist presenting an oil painting workshop on Nov. 14 -16 at the art league. A deposit of $150 will hold your place in this workshop with a balance of $300 due the first day.

There are also special classes going on right now with digital photography with Jim Feig, art for children with Michele Evans and various media taught by Sonny Timme. Call the art league at 361-572-0825 for more information about these and other activities.

So now you can see there are lots of opportunities to come join the fun or let your creative side shine at your Community Art Center, 905 S. Bridge St.
