UHV business faculty win Bloomberg BusinessWeek awards

Three University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration faculty members recently received financial awards from Bloomberg BusinessWeek for their effectiveness in using the company's materials in teaching and research.
Jie Yang, associate professor of operations management and quantitative methods, won the Bloomberg BusinessWeek Research Award worth $2,500.
Jeffrey Radighieri, assistant professor of marketing, and Stephanie Solansky, assistant professor of management, were winners of the Bloomberg BusinessWeek Teaching Award of $2,000.
The trio was recognized at a UHV School of Business Administration reception. Bloomberg BusinessWeek provides discounted magazine subscriptions to faculty and students.
"Our partnership with Bloomberg BusinessWeek is enormously beneficial to our students and faculty," said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. "As one of the leading publications in the business world, it complements our faculty's global view of business and industry, which enhances the diversity of course content. Our students get a big picture of business dealings, something we pride ourselves on in all our bachelor's and master's degrees."
Yang, who also is a certified supply chain professional, conducts her primary research on relational infrastructure in a buyer-supplier relationship, supply chain agility and knowledge, and supply chain management interface in transition economies. Her research has been published in more than 16 highly ranked academic journals.
"I am grateful to receive this generous research award in recognition of my scholarly works," Yang said. "The recognition and sustainable support from the UHV School of Business Administration have deepened my commitment to continue advancing the current studies in my research area. It motivates my colleagues and me to reach for a higher level of excellence in research."
Solansky said she was honored to receive a teaching award and be recognized by the publication and the school.
"The purpose of incorporating Bloomberg BusinessWeek into my courses is to demonstrate the connection of course content to current events that depict leadership issues," she said. "As students read the assigned articles, they browse other articles that relate to business, and that keeps them more informed of the discipline they are pursuing."
The BBA Conference has taken place each spring since 2007 and is the culmination of the BBA program. Students enrolled in "Strategic Management," the program's capstone course, attend the conference, which includes a luncheon in their honor.
Niroomand also recognized winners of the Spring Master of Business Administration Case Study and Simulation competitions. These winners were announced in May.
