Editor, the Advocate:

It seems to me there is a simple solution to the problem that was the subject of your editorial "Fee defeats purpose of online payments." The city could enact a policy of billing online, eliminating the expense of preparing, printing and mailing bills. They could then use the savings to offset the expense of the credit card processing fees. If someone agrees to online billing, they would then not be subject to the city's processing fee for paying online with a credit card. There, problem solved.

  • Ditto, allfiredup. If at all possible, I arrange for online billing and payment. Fewer hassles, no possiblility of a bill being lost in the mail and no stamps to purchase. Seems like a win-win situation to me.

  • Great idea but a little ahead of its time. Too many elderly people who don't know how to pay online and are gonna stick with writing that check and sticking it in the mail.

About 20 more years and paper billing can be relegated to history.

  • Good idea! I've opted to receive most of my bills as e-bills, anyway. It's the green thing to do.
