A Bloomington man was sentenced on Wednesday to 99 years in prison for arson.
After finding Carl Edward Shiner, 55, guilty, a jury deliberated for 30 minutes before returning its sentence recommendation.
As part of its sentencing hearing, the jury considered evidence that Shiner had previous felony convictions.
Shiner was accused of starting a fire in a closet of his Bloomington apartment with intent to damage or destroy the building in December 2010.
No one was injured in the fire.
The defendant lived in a multi-unit dwelling with other tenants.
Retired Judge Juan Velasquez presided over the case.
