Open house Saturday for restored Shiner convent
An open house for the newly restored convent at St. Ludmila Elementary School, 424 S. Saint Ludmila St. in Shiner will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The 1916 convent is being restored as part of an Eagle Scout project started by Devin Pesek and Blue Hybner in 2007. Both teens are 2011 graduates of Shiner Catholic School.
The convent is the only original structure left on the school's 114-year-old campus.
Phase I of the restoration has been completed which included a new roof, repairs to the outside mortar, repainting of the building, replacement of old windows and doors, new signs and removal of exterior stairwells.
