Military salute: Army private graduates

Army Pvt. Joshua L. Chanek has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

He is the son of Linda Chanek, of Victoria. Chanek is a 2001 graduate of Victoria High School.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Harry J. White recently reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District Dallas in Irving.

He is the son of June M. White, of Victoria. White is a 1985 graduate of Victoria High School and joined the Navy in March 1991. He is a 2001 graduate of Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y. with a associate degree and a 2007 graduate of Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y. with a bachelor's degree.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Curtis N. Postert recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

He is the son of Glenda K. Postert, of Victoria. Postert is a 2008 graduate of Calhoun High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Collin C. Mize recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

He is a 2010 graduate of Goliad High School.

Michael Wayne Holly, formerly of Port Lavaca, has been named to the national Order of Merit List. Holly is an Army ROTC cadet from Armstrong Atlantic University, Savanna, Ga. He is ranked 10th in the top 10, of more than 5,600 cadets nationwide.

Cadets are ranked on the Order of Merit List by achieving superior grade point averages, strong athletic performance in the Army physical fitness test and college athletic participation, proving their worth as exceptional leaders in their college ROTC training, and their performance at the Leader Development and Assessment Course.

He is the grandson of Kenneth and Edith Appelt, of Port Lavaca. Holly lives with his wife Lurline in Midway, Ga. He is completing his Army ROTC training through the battalion at Georgia Southern University.
