Jury unable to reach verdict in sexual assault trial, mistrial declared
District Judge Robert Cheshire declared a mistrial Friday in the sexual assault trial of Raymond Trent Peterek.
Peterek, 44, of Victoria, was on trial for three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault.
Cheshire declared a mistrial at the request of defense attorney Jane Lane after the jury proved unable to agree on a verdict that evening.
A hearing has been set for the defendant on Nov. 18, during which Peterek will either formally accept a plea deal that has been offered to him or a new trial date will be set.
Indicted on the charges in March, Peterek is accused of having sexual contact between 1990 and 2004 with two girls who were younger than 14 years of age.
Victoria County Assistant District Attorney Johna Stallings is prosecuting the case.
