Texas requires ballots in English, Spanish

Oct. 12, 2011 at 5:12 a.m.

Victoria County Elections Administrator George Matthews said while isolated areas may fluctuate around the national threshold to be required to offer bilingual ballots, Texas has required election materials to be provided in English and Spanish for all the 30 years he has worked with elections.

If a minority group in a particular county comprises at least 5 percent of that population, according to the Voting Rights act of 1965, a ballot must be offered in their languages as well.
