GUARDIANS OF THE RIBBON

Debbie's friends are coming to Victoria.

Debbie, the pink firetruck of the Guardians of the Ribbon South Texas Chapter, will be joined by four more pink firetrucks at Paint Victoria Pink, Sunday, Oct. 23.

The visiting trucks are part of the national Pink Heals Tour 2011.

Members of the Guardians of the Ribbon dressed in pink fire suits, drive pink firetrucks across the country to spread their awareness campaign and support women in their fight against cancer.

The local event, held in conjunction with Victoria Fire Department Station 4 and Parkway Baptist Church, will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the corner of Salem Road and John Stockbauer Drive.

"We are very excited to be on the national tour stop. It is a huge honor and we want to get the community aware and behind the movement," said Ceci Oldmixon, of the local chapter of Guardians of the Ribbon.

One of the event's special features will be an opportunity for anyone touched by cancer to sign one of the trucks in honor of their battle or their loved one's battle.

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to display pink on Oct. 23 in support of the event.

Community partners are also needed to assist with monetary support, volunteer support, food vendors, family-friendly games and activities, entertainment or silent auction and door prize items.

To provide assistance or for more information call 361-237-4556, 361-935-4400 or contact pinkevent@pinktexas.org.
