  • I must say I travel this highway often and have never really paid attention to Ms. Lusters property nor for that matter the homes in Lake View. Of course now I will make it a point to pay more attention.

I have heard in the past about Ms. Lusters Halloween costumes but thought they would be to expensive so have never gone by there. Now that I know they are only $10 and they are hand made and are made from recycled clothing bought at the Crisis Center Thrift shop I will have to stop in.My only question is was the material prewashed after it was picked up from there?
Just an FYI even clothing bought at the most expensive department store in town has probably been tried on by someone so in effect has been used. Even costumes bought at wallyworld have been tried on touched by grubby hands etc. and don't try washing those cause they will for sure fall apart.
Again I have not been in Ms Lusters shop yet so don't know a thing about it but plan to make a trip now.
It seems to me that a lot of people know a whole lot about the inside of her shop though. Especially the people who are complaining.
Hmmmmmm . Just makes me think...........

  • Like the comment victheatre.....I saw a couple movies at the Lonetree Drive In....even saw snippets years before from a yellow hound school bus coming back from playing in a football game/track meet...we all howled and laughed................great times.

    October 19, 2011 at 3:14 a.m.
  • Absolutely amazing how far Victoria has regressed in the last 40 years. Way back in 1968 we had PORN for everyone to see at the LONE TREE drive-in. We continued to show PORN until 1986 when the video rental business made it unprofitable. Why go out in public to watch PORN when it could be viewed in your own house. Imagine what these people would have said about PORN on a screen that was 70 ft. tall and 120 feet wide.... Yes the Lone Tree screen was taller than a 7 story building, and visible from the bypass once it was built at the edge of the property. The 900 parking spots at the drive in were not full every night, but they sure weren't empty either. Many city leaders fought and fought to get it shut down, had the manager arrested, all sorts of shenanigans. The solution was to put up GLARE LIGHTS which would "dazzle and blind" those whose gaze was caught by the XXX scenes, so that they would not be offended. However within days of installing the glare lights, all of them had been shot out and destroyed by those wishing to view said scenes. its just too bad that those viewing from outside the drive in were not able to hear the very artistic soundtracks that accompanied the films.... or maybe that was a good thing. Really is there anything worse than a porn movie soundtrack?
The point here is that the right to sell or view porn is legal. The right to advertise tastefully is legal. The right to be offended is your right..... but don't impose your standards on everyone else.

    October 18, 2011 at 9:08 p.m.
  • Hidden Pleasures is right in the middle of town. Down the street from schools and churches. Have any of you been in there to see their private room? I don't believe that the business is the issue here. It is the sign that announces the availability of said porn. Hidden Pleasures not announce to God and everyone driving down Mockingbird what is inside of the shop. Yet they too have been around for years!

    October 18, 2011 at 5:51 p.m.
  • Well then I suppose we agree to disagree.

    October 18, 2011 at 5:21 p.m.
  • OH MY GOSH FATGUY are you really that full of yourself. You get on these forums at times and make no sense. The Bible was quoted about judging if you feel comfortable about judging what she does then so be it. But if you can judge then so can I. You are so wrong in this instance. But from where I stand you are the one that needs to sit in church. I know that God is not interested in where the money comes from, I will not judge her without stopping by. You and TexMex2010 need to get a life.

    October 18, 2011 at 5:14 p.m.
  • Carole Just remember that the truth will come out ahead.

    October 18, 2011 at 5:08 p.m.
  • Oh brother, I'm not judging her but merely pointing out what I perceive as a contradiction. By the way Jesus was not suggesting we can't discern right from wrong.

By your logic we can't ever say, do or act against something that is sinful, evil or just plain wrong. I don't believe that is the context Jesus was trying to teach in those verses.

    October 18, 2011 at 5:06 p.m.
  • Here is a list of all the bible verses from the Old and New Testament that are about tithing.

» Genesis 14:20 – Melchizedek comes out to meet Abraham, as Abraham gives him a tithe of the spoils of his victory.
» Genesis 28:20-22 – After the vision of God’s renewed covenant, Jacob initiates a covenant with God vowing to give him a tithe of what he receives from the promised land.
» Leviticus 27:30-32 – The specifications of the tithe is introduced into the law of Moses.
» Numbers 18:21 – The tithe is dedicated the Levites for the work in the tabernacle.
» Deuteronomy 12:5-11 – God gives instructions for what to do with the tithe once Israel crosses the Jordan.
» Deuteronomy 14:22-29 – God gives instructions on how to disperse and exchange the tithe.

  • Just thought some of you might like to read about judging others. Could be interesting you sit in your chair and judge her yet you are the one being judged on judging her!!! A tangled web has been woven!

    October 18, 2011 at 5:02 p.m.
  • Putting "Family & Adult X Movies" on the same sign isn't the best marketing idea or message, but other than that I see this as a non-issue.

Last time I checked The Church wasn't concerned with where the money came from or how it was earned, just that it made its way into the collection plate or bucket.

    October 18, 2011 at 5 p.m.
  • Fatguy

    This is for you!!!

    Matthew 7:1-5 ESV
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

    John 7:24 ESV
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

    Luke 6:37 ESV
    “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;

    Romans 2:1-3 ESV
Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?

    Matthew 7:1 ESV
“Judge not, that you be not judged.

    James 4:11-12 ESV
Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

  • TexMex2010 I just might have to go by there sometime this afternoon to check out the problem when I do and post what I think you maybe eating crow for supper tomorrow night. BTW Victoria Secrets is the sexy stuff the porn stars wear. So how about that!!! Porn isnt all that bad MOST of America DO THE EXACT same things. But I don't want my children to see the covers that statement is true but maybe you need a little stress relief. Most uptight fridged people do!!! Give this place a chance DD novelity is near a neighborhood NO COMPLAINTS. Hidden Pleasures is near a neighborhood and across from a resting place. NO COMPLAINTS. I have visted one of these for gifts for showers. NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!!! LIKE I SAID UPTIGHT!!

    October 18, 2011 at 4:54 p.m.
  • Your logic in regard to christianity and the sale of porn is kinda twisted lady. For some reason I just can't picture our Lord and Savior pimping porn because the money made could go to worthy causes.

    October 18, 2011 at 4:50 p.m.
  • I feel bad for the surrounding neighborhoods ... It sounds like the owner of this property is not going away anytime soon ... after the DVD business fails, she will try something else ...

Christmas Carole selling porn or something else ... Yikes!

    October 18, 2011 at 4:29 p.m.
  • So Lakeshore crew what is your response to the removal of the X? I remember the Movie Shoppe backroom no one complained. I never even knew the old Video Gallery had a backroom and we went in their alot when I was a kid.

    October 18, 2011 at 4:06 p.m.
  • Cinder go visit this "family business today" ... Let us know what you think ...

    October 18, 2011 at 3:48 p.m.
  • Victoria Secrets store = sexy = good!

    Family & Adult X movies = porn = bad!

    October 18, 2011 at 3:04 p.m.
  • As far as Victoria Secerts goes its bras panties and nighties. BLAH BLAH nothing different than JCPENNYS, Dillards, Bealls, Sears, Kohls or Walmart. GET A GRIP FOLKS. IF you can't handle the items stay out of the stores.

    October 18, 2011 at 2:53 p.m.
  • I wonder how many of the women posting on here don't know their better half has been in there. Now you all have made it very public by doing this so nothing is accomplished. I actually did not know about it until today. GOOD JOB!! But since she does family movies I may try it. What's wrong did someone get mad because they found a charge on a bank record for a movie there and then found the receipt. I mean thats how it sounds to me.

    October 18, 2011 at 2:48 p.m.
  • Ok To All Concerned:
I am a mother and a wife, I have a question for all of you who like to create problems were there are none. SEX sells and it sells big. Did you all know that if you listen at night after 7:00 you can here words like laid and male and female organs on the tv. We send our kids to bed at 7 and have them read so they don't hear those things. Yet I don't hear you all crying about that. HMMM not because it's funny. Sunday night you have "Cartoons" on that are filled with adult conversations. Yet no crying. I am just stating facts. If you don't like the location then don't look that way. If you don't like the sign then don't read it. If you don't like the products don't buy or rent from her. She is trying to make a living like the rest of us, who cares how she does it. If you don't want your kids subjected to it don't let them go in there. I do not allow porn in my home or on my computers or near my children but you don't have to boycott her just don't stop by. My Gosh she is human and needs to work. Find something else to vent about. Let's try dress codes for VISD, School taxes, Shortage of bus transportation or cost of gas. I mean really.

What have all of you been talking about?

Half of the comments are from the proprietor, which look like advertising blogs.

Journalism at its best from the Cobler Advocate.

    October 18, 2011 at 12:32 p.m.
  • It sickens me that so many of you say this is a bad idea. This stuff goes on in churches, at school, it's all over the internet. It's up to the adults (parents) to make the choice not to have your family at the shop. Go take a look at what she has to offer. Or are you scared at "who" you may see there. We are in 2011, get over it. You might as well ask the city to close all the other video shops and DnD Novelties. As well stop allowing the SPIRIT Halloween store to locate here. Get your families/kids involved in some after school and outside activities and you won't even notice the place.

    October 18, 2011 at 11:44 a.m.
  • I don't care about the location of this business. I find it very amusing that the owner keeps saying that this is a family oriented business ... It is not.
It's a very creepy set up ... No wonder the neighbors are worried!

    October 18, 2011 at 11:29 a.m.
  • Jlord,

So true. Most avalanches start with one small peeble rolling downhill.

Our most important and powerful tool is still between our ears and it does require constant input to feed intellectual growth to challenge the unknown.

    October 18, 2011 at 11:15 a.m.
  • vet43, what is ammusing if you think about it, is that a majority that want banning books, etc. also want reduced government regulations, right to bare arms, religion in schools, etc. While I always air on the social and political conservative side, I at least realize civil libs are extremely important. Remember what happens here could have far away consequences on various businesses.

    October 18, 2011 at 10:57 a.m.
  • A while back the Victoria Advocate had a poll regarding should a book be banned. With 187 votes there where 47% that were in favor of burning certain books. I found it frightening that so many folks want to control what American citizens may read. Now there is an issue with what they see in the privacy of thier homes. What is next? Mind control?

    October 18, 2011 at 10:36 a.m.
  • Don't get me wrong, I am not against Carole's right to business just trying to find a solution. The NIMBY attitudes in this town might be the worst I have experienced anywhere.

The business is not in the Lakeview subdivision. Lakeview is deed restricted development but home owners have no rights to try and impose those restrictions on anyone outside their subdivision.

    October 18, 2011 at 10:34 a.m.
  • so texmex, she started this fight against her neighbors? She was there before them, in business before they lived in this lakeview. How is she doing everything against her neighbor? Sounds vice versa if you ask me.....I know, let's spin off of the Occupy movement, and Occupy Lakeview!

    October 18, 2011 at 10:19 a.m.
  • You people need to stop being so dang nosey and mind your own business, everybody has the right to make an income, go build a bridge and get over it, there are other shops in Victoria selling the same stuff and you don't see people complaining about them......get a life and worry about youself and not poke into other peoples business.

    October 18, 2011 at 10:01 a.m.
  • Take the 'X' off the sign. Seems like a simple solution. Adult then covers all movies not intended for teens and younger including mainstream theatrical releases.

    October 18, 2011 at 9:59 a.m.
  • EXcuse me,but a Christian woman would never sell PORN. Can you see Jesus doing that? I think not.

    October 18, 2011 at 9:56 a.m.
  • Everybody should take their children to this nice family business!

    October 18, 2011 at 9:42 a.m.
  • Come on Victoria! You all should back this fine establishment! LOL

    October 18, 2011 at 9:32 a.m.
  • Just stating ideas. Personally, I don't care where your shop is.

    October 18, 2011 at 8:29 a.m.
  • You all need to get over it. If you don't like it don't go there. Don't allow your family there. She is making a living. Her choice. If a video store that has adult movies can be in the middle of town (not far from a little church school), what's the problem with her location. It's just that you that live across think your too good for the location to be where it is. You may need her shop to save your marriage one day!! Just haters. You're probably upset because she beat you to it. Leave her be and mind your own business. Worry about your own.

    October 18, 2011 at 8:22 a.m.
  • This is just a silly clash of hard heads. I see no problem with Ms Luster's business, and I don't like porn. A discreet shop with such material is nobody's business. To me its an easy fix--just take the X off the sign. People who are looking for that kind of stuff know where to find it. And those with children don't have to cringe when they drive by afraid they are gonna have to explain it to a 6 year old. It might even increase business as those who don't want their cars seen at a X shop may stop by. It is really the X that makes the shop seem trashy.

    October 18, 2011 at 8:14 a.m.
  • If you don't like the store just put a Redbox across the road and charge .50 cents per movie rental. Halloween costumes only sell one time a year......

Other than that, whining will only create a longer blog.

    October 18, 2011 at 8:03 a.m.
  • Carole,
You are the ideal neighbor ... Everyone wants to move in next to you ... You are a true American ... And a Christian woman.

Do everything you can against your neighbors ... The only things they worry about are their kids and safe neighborhood ...

This is America! We don't care about neighbors ... Just our God giving right to sell porn!!

  • Ray, you worry too much.
The homes across from your subdivision were already established when you moved into your new home. I believe your real problem is looking at them when you leave your high end neighborhood. Get over it or move. What Ms. Luster sells at her shop is none of your business, unless it's illegal.

  • I am a reputable clean livin'God fearin' Christian woman, You know sis that is a wonderful confession. I would like to ask you to pray about what you are doing. Pornography has been proven to have horrible effects upon young men as well as marriages.

Most men who view this material slowly get addicted to it, eventual it almost becomes impossible to have a normal clean thought about any woman. Lust is like a disease or an addiction, it cant be satisfied, many times men are driven by this so that there wifes or any one else cant satisfy them. They are driven to have continuous multiple partners, disease are spread & homes are broken up.

Surely if you do fear God you must know that adultery & fornication as depicted in these films is strictly forbidden by the Lord & for good reason.

Many of these porn stars wind up with aids etc. I read many years ago that these woman that are in the sex trade, dancers etc come out of homes where they were molested & raped.

I think it is very degrading to women when they are reduced to nothing more than sex queens, pieces of equipment to be used & abused. Carol do you believe that these men & women who prostitute them selves out on film aren't traped ? Forget about winning or losing the argument with the county/neighbors etc. Just focus on pleasing the Lord. Put Him to the test & see if business doesn't pick up after you dispose of the porn.

    Sincerely Gary White

  • Is Carole Luster, owner of Movies To Go the only place to see X-rated material...
My computer went down and I had to complete an important report.
My wife and I went to the Victoria Public Library. As we enter one of the back rooms, people kept talking about what a young kid was looking at. The young kid was looking at X-rated nude women. I went to inform the attendant, I did not believe this was appropriate behavior, since there were other families and young children in the room.
The attendant informed me, since the library was a public place, they could not prohibit persons from seeing this type of material or restrict this type of material from coming into the library computers.
So now are you going to restrict a Public Library from operating across the street from you...

  • Ray, you might need to get some vagisil for that rash that is aggrivating you. I think you screwed up and didn't look at the area before you bought the house. Maybe if you did, you'd see the business was there before you, or the subdivision. But relax Ray, there are other subdivisions in development out in the county that you can move to. Suggest you look at the area before you do though. All the crying you're doing could cause a flood.

  • Hey I used to work for a private video store that had a section of adult videos (Video Gallery). I went there for years as a kid and would still go there had the owner not sold it and it got run out by the chains and of course red box. Yes it had adult videos, but was plain that I could not go there and was watched. It was right off Stockbauer next to the old Maggies and even close to a ghasp! school. You would be suprised how many judges, lawyers, councilmen, businessmen, Victoria icons, and even lawmakers that went in that little room. So be careful when judging who these people are that going in there.

Your attitude makes me want to never step foot in any business that you are offering. Instead of trying to work with your neighbors, it sounds as if you have made it worse. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising, I live in the area and will make sure to spread the word.

    October 17, 2011 at 8:59 p.m.
  • I wouldn't mind having TVs, computers, internet and Guns shops around my neighborhood ...
A porn business is different ... it attracts a crowd of deviants and sexual predators to a specific point ... is anyone comfortable with that?

This is not about the Lakeview residents ... there are other families that live across the road with kids that feel uncomfortable about it. Before you comment ... please take the time to drive up FM 236 and see this "family business" ... it's really creepy!

    October 17, 2011 at 8:57 p.m.

  • I have no sympathy for the Lakeview residents who are trying to keep their ivory towers free from the blight that surrounds them. Welcome to the real world. Not everyone has the wherewithal to surround themselves with the niceties of a better homes and gardens lifestyle. There are some who have to do what it takes to eke out a living with whatever means are at their disposal.

I dare say, one of the attractive features of Lakeview is the large lots, large homes and the absence of city taxes. These perks come with a downside sometimes. I suspect, this is more about an eyesore, than the fact that x-rated videos are being sold across the road. Years ago, I watched Lakeview being developed from pasture land. Anyone who bought property and built homes in that subdivision had to have seen the older, run-down properties across the road. These old and worn-out homes may be an unwanted blight to Lakeview, but nonetheless, they're home to quite a few people.

This is the same scenario as developers who build under the flight paths of runway only to have the residents later on protest the noise of aircraft overhead.

I have a suggestion, close off the Upper Mission Valley Road entrance to Lakeview and make a nice long winding entrance/exit to Pozzi Road. You can come and go without ever having to view the undesirables across the street. Your idyllic views of utopia can then persevere.

  • Not all porn viewers are deviants or sexual predators.

All deviants and sexual predators view porn.

Do you want porn available around your neighborhood?

  • Lady,
No one cares what u do to make income. U could sell urself as the brothel and star in the xxx movies urself. U still won't make any money. As many businesses u have open, I would imagine u have very organized tax returns. If not, the IRS might like to visit u.

  • Protect the public welfare, huh? Protect the public welfare from what? Adult XXX?

Look out Victoria County, someone has a sign that has the words "Adult XXX" and it is endangering the public!

The real danger to the public is this cry to the County to intervene and remove more of our Liberty.

I agree with the suggestion from holein1.

Maybe is time to put on grown up pants and stop asking the Government to fix problems.

    October 17, 2011 at 8:16 p.m.
  • Oh Ray, where to begin.....I guess most importantly is NEVER veiw porn on your computer, it corrupts the harddrive (like an STD) & what if you click on a sight that has child porn, you could get arrested & labeled a sex offender for life. Secondly, you seem to have a major dislike of porn yet you view it on your computer where your child could find it in your history. So you confuse me with your contradictions.

Secondly, Victoria has no zoning, city or county, period. Nobody in Victoria seems to want zoning, so why do you feel like your neighborhood should be special? The lack of zoning has killed the property values of many neighborhoods in Victoria, y'all won't be the first nor the last. If you are that unhappy the best thing to do is either close your blinds or move.

    October 17, 2011 at 8:15 p.m.
  • Quote from Ray - I can assure you the County will side with the homeowners, because after all our property taxes add up to a lot more than what your "Trailer" is worth

Thanks Ray for letting us all know what you stand for. This is no worse than our city council attempting to allow citizens of woodway make decisions on how our public roads should be used.

I appreciate it Ray, I was wavering just a tad on who was right or wrong here, mostly because I haven't seen any of the properties in question. Now you have convinced me to side with the trailer owner. Thanks!

  • Does anyone ever remember these type of objections when Movie Shoppe or Video Gallery were open?

    October 17, 2011 at 8:10 p.m.
  • Yes. Agreed. A valid point. But children and adult oriented businesses do not mix. It's a recipe for disaster.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:59 p.m.
  • Ray sounds like quite a guy. First, he disregards property rights and then he tries to shut down differing opinions.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:59 p.m.
  • Jimi Dollar.

Thank you for applying common sense.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:56 p.m.
  • Since you moved out of Victoria, why don't you keep your opinions to your local neighborhood.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:51 p.m.
  • People do not abduct children because of movies. They abduct children because they are sick. Put the responsibility where it belongs.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:44 p.m.
  • If people want to buy second hand cheap costumes, that is their business. I will agree that it was a poor choice to put adult AND childrens movies in the same sign, that had me look twice. I will also agree in this day of technology it is a poor choice to have a business like this. Its unlikely child molesters will be casing this place waiting for a cutout to attract kids, i think the internet has that covered.

  • digalitldper , where do you reside? If this happened down Country Club drive, would this be a bigger deal than it already is?

    October 17, 2011 at 7:25 p.m.
  • Lady,
Your house looks creepy ... this is not about the Lakeview residents ... it's about the whole idea of a "family oriented business" that offers a few adult videos ... by the way, 800 videos is not a few ... that's hundreds of videos! This is America ... and you are not breaking laws. But, please don't try to say that you have a "family business" ... don't insult us. A lot of deviants and sexual predators like porn ... you are offering PORN at your place of residence ... your home ... I hope is worth it. I can understand why the residents around your area feel uneasy about some creepy people going to their neighborhood.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:15 p.m.
  • You wrap yourself in God, Country, and Texas. Go ahead and post all the signs you want. There is something called the Texas Beautification Act. You might want to get familiar with it.

What she does with her property is her business. It becomes a concern when she hurts other homeowners property values.

By all means, everyone needs to go by and have a look at her shop. All of her so called costumes are handmade. And poorly at that. That's why they all cost $10. You will not find anything that is new in packaging. If you buy anything, be sure to have it washed before you wear it. The only things that are in packaging is her porn stash.

I do not take offense to her selling any XXX movies or making an money off of the "hundreds of wonderful" customers she claims to have. I do mind when she has XXX movies written on signs right next to children's movies. The whole thing is just creepy. It looks like the beginning of a Rob Zombie movie. I would hate to see some kids wind up missing after trying to score some DVD porn.

It seems kind of archaic in the digital age to have DVDs anyways. You can rent any movie you want from Netflix without having to leave your couch. And if you can't find the porn you want for free on the Internet, you aren't looking in the right places.

There are also the wooden people with the faces cut out displayed in the yard. It's like she is trying to lure children onto the property with them. And let's just say there are some predators that like to look at and buy cheap porno movies. Who is to say that they won't snatch up one of the neighborhood children to act out what they saw in a XXX DVD.

    October 17, 2011 at 7:13 p.m.
  • Debra Stewart and those 11 other residents should be more concern about Wm Paul Tasin and Gang sticking pictures of aborted babies ( Death Kiddie Porn) in the faces of children in schools. That’s right I said it.

  • Quote from Ray - I can assure you the County will side with the homeowners, because after all our property taxes add up to a lot more than what your "Trailer" is worth.

Wow!...to hell with laws...its all about the almighty $$$ in those eyes.

  • ...on the other hand...since this place has opened up...all i ever think about is sexual relations.........its been there for years and years..right?

    October 17, 2011 at 6:59 p.m.
  • I believe if the people of Lakeview had their way....ALL of our unsightly homes that have been here for over 40yrs or more would be gone...maybe yall shoulda built this 'hood' in BFE so no one would ever offend yall.

    October 17, 2011 at 6:54 p.m.
  • Well said Jimi.

Daisy, I respect your desire to not have porn in your front yard. As long as you or your husband do not open a porn business in your front yard, you should be safe.

I have a suggestion for Ray, Daisy and the others that are so concerned: buy her out. Don't like her business? Buy her out and shut it down. If everyone in Lakeview has the redass as bad you two, then it will be pretty cheap split that many ways.

    October 17, 2011 at 6:53 p.m.
  • Ray, what she does with her property is her business just as what you do with your property is your business. If you believe that your children are endangered by this establishment then the solution is simple: Keep them out of it. That goes for anyone else as well. The free market at work.

    October 17, 2011 at 6:26 p.m.
  • Well said Ray! I am across the street in Lakeview and I do not care what media your porn is PORN is PORN... book PORN or video PORN... and I do not want it in my front yard.

    October 17, 2011 at 6:26 p.m.
  • Actually I would say it makes people look like freedom and liberty hating citizens. There are some countries that fit people's needs. I have nothing in this, dont live anywhere near the "privilidged" Lakeview subdivision, but I will defend small private business and individual liberty and freedom. Not to mention, how is this so unique? Several shops sell more graphic items that what is being reported here. Some right outside neighborhoods. Some right across from the mall with video boxes on the windows for all to see. Also, what purpose would this serve? Any zoning restriction has to be grandfathered. I guess the residents of Lakeview and their blosoming property values, could take up a collection and buy her out?
Coming soon: no fried chicken places near schools?

    October 17, 2011 at 6:21 p.m.
  • It seems that money is the reason that this business opened in the first place. Currently, there are no laws that limit someone from opening a business such as this. We as concerned taxpayers want to make sure that this does not start some kind of new trend. Would you like to have this sort of lunacy directly across the street from your house?

Since money is what caused this, does it make the Lakeview homeowners out to be the bad guys because we want to keep our home values from falling? Or make us look like citizens that will stand up and do what is right for the better of our community?

    October 17, 2011 at 6:02 p.m.
  • Ok mission so the building is covered in trashy signage? That does paint a different picture than just a small hidden room. I don't remember the Movie Shoppe on Airline having large signs advertising their little room.

    October 17, 2011 at 4:54 p.m.
  • Carole Luster,
You obviously fail to realize the big picture. Lakeview Subdivision is one of, if not the nicest Subdivision in Victoria County. There are several houses and lots that are for sale at this very moment. These very same houses and lots are being looked at by executives that are employed by Caterpillar. These executives are looking for a safe, beautiful area to raise their children. Is this how you want Victoria to be portrayed? You clearly do not care that your home is covered in over 18 signs that are crude and painted by a shaky hand. But we as an entire neighborhood do care. We care that as a whole, our property values would decline as a result of your Sexually Oriented Business signage. We care that our children do not have to see that someone opened a XXX movie business out of an old trailer that was painted blue. We care that the same business sells children's movies and halloween costumes. Anyone that sells these items together in the same store surely has no regard for children. I can assure you the County will side with the homeowners, because after all our property taxes add up to a lot more than what your "Trailer" is worth.
If you had any sense of decency, you would remove your tasteless signs that are an eyesore to everyone that travels the Upper Mission Valley road.
You talk about being a "repuatable clean livin'God fearin' Christian woman" then what about the movies in your shop that portray women that are Sl*ts and Wh*res? Or the gang bang movies you so proudly sell that show women being used as objects. Or racially motivated movies that have black women, midgets, Asians, or even gay and Lesbian porn. Do you consider that to be clean, or christain?
    Ray
    Lakeview homeowner.

  • Relax everyone. Opening a DVD shop in this day and age is like opening a typewriter store in 1990.

    October 17, 2011 at 4:43 p.m.
  • I have to say it seems the article is written for drama. I was picturing some store with obvious XXX signs all around.

    October 17, 2011 at 4:42 p.m.
  • I thought the people of Victoria were about less government ?

Wouldn't new licensing requirements simply be more government intrusion in our lives ?

    October 17, 2011 at 4:29 p.m.
  • Even if the county created an ordinance, wouldn't the current business be considered grandfathered? Seems kind of pointless if that is the case.

I have never really understood how America has been able to hold on so tightly to its puritanical views on sex and sexuality. Thank God we have been able to evolve in other ways.

    October 17, 2011 at 4:29 p.m.
  • Maybe the Commissioners Court should require require licensing to live near sexually oriented businesses.

When are people going to stop asking to have their Liberty taken away from them?

    WAKE UP!!

    October 17, 2011 at 4 p.m.
  • Movie Shoppe had a section for years and nobody complained?

Now one with a very small selection gets this kind of publicity? Can somebody explain why?

    October 17, 2011 at 3:58 p.m.
  • How do people not know that Victoria does not have strict zoning laws. Overreaction once again.
