First they congregated, and they almost celebrated, but the Cardinals would not allow it.

Hundreds of baseball fans descended on Buffalo Wild Wings on Navarro to watch Game 6 of the World Series between Texas and St. Louis on Thursday evening.

And with every Rangers' hit and every Cardinals' out, the crowd grew more anxious in anticipation of the crowning of a new world champion.

Unfortunately, they will have to wait at least one more day.

No lead was safe as the pesky Cardinals forced extra innings before thwarting Texas' championship celebration with a 10-9 Game 6 victory.

Scott Ferstl, a 47-year-old truck driver, was just one of the rowdy Ranger fans to partake in the festivities in anticipation of Texas winning the franchise's first World Series.

"God bless Nolan Ryan," the longtime fan said of the Rangers' CEO prior to the end of the game. "This means a lot to me because they spent all that money on Alex Rodriguez, and then he went to the Yankees.

"Hey, we don't need you, Alex."

Back-to-back home runs by Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The Cardinals, however, erased a pair of Rangers' two-run leads in the 9th and 10th innings.

The excitement was not contained to just Texas fans.

Amidst the numerous red, white and blue T-shirts and hats, Houston Astros fan Kevin Mutschler was on hand rooting for the Rangers.

"(Potentially,) this is the first (MLB) championship that Texas, as a state, has ever had," the 48-year-old independent businessman said. "I just love the game of baseball, and I like the playoffs.

"I'm tired of seeing the Yankees in the World Series or the Boston Red Sox, so the fact that we're watching the Texas Rangers makes it that much sweeter."

  • Should have kept Holland in for the rest of the game. Of course Cruz didn't even run hard for that first comeback....he said he is afraid of hitting the wall hard....yes he actually admits that...I will say it "Cruz cost the Rangers the World Series". Ron "The Wash" Washington does not help as well. Even if got to the 12th inning, it was going to be nuts because of how he moved the pitcher up 4 spots in the order....gees.

  • Aaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Five flippin' hours I watched last night!!! (with a 30-minute timeout for Beavis and Butthead, of course).

ONE FREAKING STRIKE AWAY from winning the world series........

And they let it get away. Oh my gosh I can't take any more of this.

AND "FRINGE" is going to be pre-empted tonight.

    Oh THE HUMANITY!!!!!!!!!!!
