Saturday's Armadillo Fest mixes old and new traditions. After a near 20-year hiatus, change is inevitable.

"Everything takes a turn in time," said Dian Patterson, the Victoria Jaycees president.

Patterson said her organization partnered with the revived festival for the cook off.

Thirty teams have entered the contest at Riverside Park. Half of the contestants are local, the other from out of town.

On Friday, teams will compete for bragging rights of the best margarita. And the chicken, ribs, brisket, and dessert contest take place on Saturday. Winners will receive cash prizes and plaques.

Patterson said the modern-day festival has activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Local band, The Revival, may be too young to remember the original version from the 1970's and 1980's. But they are still thrilled to participate.

"My neighbors are excited (the festival) is coming back," he said. "It will be interesting how it all turns out."
