Editor, the Advocate:
What in the world were you thinking? Putting such garbage in the newspaper and calling it "News"?
I do not know who you are, and do you call yourself a reporter? Do you have children? Do you know the elementary schools ask parents to donate the newspapers to the teachers so the students can learn to read the news every day? I certainly do not think the elementary age children - no, not even the general public need a front page story like the one you put in the Tuesday paper about the defendant in the rape trial.
I have been a subscriber to the Advocate for the last 40 years. There has been a few things in the paper I thought was disgraceful, but this article takes the cake. Come on, Chris Cobler, Tim Delaney, Dan Easton, Stephen McHaney, you could have said with taste - the defendant is pleading insanity. Let's hear it from those who agree - the Advocate readers deserve better. Let's make sure your email filter lets you print this.

September 25, 2011 at 7:16 p.m.so what exactly is ruth looking for when she reads a newspaper? stories about unicorns and butterflies? welcome to the real world lady
September 23, 2011 at 11:04 p.m.Sonny Long has done a tremendous job reporting on this sad, sad story.
If it is any help to you , Ms. Huebner, I find this offensive, too. I find it offensive to society that this skanky creep would terrorize these defensless, senior citizens. The fear these women must have felt is above anything I can imagine. They thought they were going to die!
I find it offensive that not only Harris, but his attorney Alan Cohen would perpetrate this farce on the citizens of Jackson County and not only waste their time, but their money on this trial.
And I find it offensive that some folks still believe we should not talk about these things, keeping instead the dark secrets they fuel.
The courage that these women, these survivors, have shown is inspiring and has not gone unnoticed.
September 23, 2011 at 8:17 p.m.Kudos to ALL the reporters!!! I would like to say it was a good job reporting. If you don't like the headlines then move on. You can NEVER satisfy everyone. People are asking/complaining why there isn't more details for different stories and then when they do people are asking/complaining it was too detailed. Come on give them a break!! Unfortunately I'm sure some kids watch much worst things on TV. It was on the front page so cut it out before you distribute the newspaper to your students. News is news whether it is good or bad!! All crime is bad whether it includes Rape or Murder. These poor victums did not see the need to hide their story or they would not have their name printed and commented on this case. They stood up and faced this freakin idiot. I would use worse names but there may be children reading this!!
September 23, 2011 at 1:05 p.m.I agree with bakerman. News is news be it good, bad or ugly. I think if the Advocate reported only good news that is G rated, it would be a very small newspaper.
September 23, 2011 at 10:40 a.m.Is Mrs. Huebner suggesting that news (Rape) not be reported, that it should be censored? I agree, school kids do read the paper, but, that doesn't mean the news, no matter how distasteful, shouldn't be accurately reported. The reporters were doing their jobs and this was a heinous crime.
