Victoria College is vamping up its campaign to collect and update contact information from its students, faculty and staff after shots were fired on the campus Sept. 21.
Within minutes of the shooting in the VC Sports and Fitness Center, the college activated its emergency alert system, which sent out notifications regarding the emergency.
On Oct. 12, VC will conduct a test of the emergency alert system. All students, faculty and staff who have up-to-date contact information in the Pirate Portal should receive a test notification similar to what they would receive during a campus emergency.
Of 4,969 employees and students, VC has access to contact information for 4,322 in its emergency alert database.
The college is encouraging students, faculty and staff to update their contact information to allow alerts to be sent to a cell phone, home phone, campus phone, preferred email address and via text. The alerts are sent repeatedly until the receiver confirms receipt of the notification.
Contact information can be updated in the Pirate Portal by going to www.victoriacollege.edu/emergencies.
Students and employees who need help updating their contact information are encouraged to stop by Room 123 of the Health Sciences Center between 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Wednesday
