DPS appoints a new commander for Region 6

Gary Albus was appointed the new regional commander for the Department of Public Safety Region 6, which includes Victoria.
DPS Director Steven C. McCraw made the announcement Thursday.
In this position, Albus will oversee both law enforcement operations and service functions in the region.
Region 6 is headquartered in San Antonio. It also includes Austin, Waco, Victoria and a portion of the Texas coast.
"I am excited to work with our outstanding DPS personnel in Region 6 as we protect and serve Texas," Albus said.
Albus is a graduate of the Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command.
Albus graduated from the DPS Training Academy in 1979, and served as a Texas highway patrol trooper in Odessa before transferring to the license and weight service in 1987.
He was promoted to sergeant in 1993, while stationed in Lubbock and lieutenant in 1995 with stops in Corpus Christi and Lubbock. He made captain in 2002 with stops in El Paso and Lubbock.
Albus has served as Texas Highway Patrol major in Lubbock since 2010.
