Why stop there? Where are the energy to prevent gangs, illegals, or better yet...better yet..to ban local nut jobs like William Paul Tasin from shoving abortion 'porn' in the faces of school childern.

  • Here is a nice law you can write...
If the sale, promotion, discussion, advertisement, thinking about, having, wanting, keeping, taking, looking at, showing, or caring about anything (including pornographic material) by any person interfers, affects, bothers, or could cause another person who has friends in high places any issues with profiting from their own personal wants, needs or thoughts, the person doing whatever the person with friends in high places doesn't want shall be deemed in violation and can be fined $5000.00 for evey infraction.

Now that will make it so much easier for the rich folks with friends in high places to just walk in at any time and stomp all over anyone they want whenever they want and they don't even have to worry about any silly constitution or whatever else should hinder their needs.

Mr. Allison, County Commisioners, Mr. Pozzi, and Mr. Tyler, please go worry about something that is really causing a problem in Victoria and stop trying to regulate something that is resulting in zero harm to anyone.

  • really the sale of porn having a negative effect on our community. but judges who break the law and Victoria law officials committing crimes to the citizens and community of Victoria doesn't have any negative effects to our community? yep just like the Victoria law system and council to place blame else where. how embarrassing. what an incompetent group of idiots we have running Victoria? now that is the major negative effect we have in Victoria. not the sale of porn that has been going on for many many years. what a waist of power resources and time. but that most certainly doesn't have a negative effect on Victoria. what a joke.

  • Let me put it this way. If it wasn't for porn, some of us wouldn't have been born.

    April 3, 2012 at 4:19 p.m.
  • Wow, you'd think this article was published in the 50's during McCarthyism...
Do people nowadays actually care that some adults can buy sex movies..? If your parents hadn't watched them, you might not even be here right now..
Since when is the act of reproduction dirty? It's only dirty if you don't wash..
This is so stupid and immature..
To think that our forefathers fought and died for the right to have free speech and some Podunk think that by selling a video tape will reduce property values?
I'm a Christian and I wouldn't think of trying to control people or make them think a certain way..
People that want these regulations are evil themselves. power, control and money.. never ends does it? they should be ashamed..
Lets go after the little girls with their lemonade stands next like they did in GA.. Let's see how that sits with the community..
If this Jim Allison wants regulations so bad and he's and elected official, then lets vote his regulating arse back to the stix where his property values are dropping from all the porn..
We have far too many "regulations" now, do we really need one more?

  • I had FOUR MOVIES TO GO Video Stores

in the Four Corners area (Durango,Co., Fort Morgan, Co. Cortez,Co,

    and Farmington,NM) in the 1980s.

My shops had the SAME FORMAT as the one here in Victoria,

a large family general audience movie selection,

and a small discreet Adult X movie section.

The Movies To Go thrived and prospered greatly

in all of those locations, with THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS

    OF CUSTOMERS!

    NEVER NEVER ONE COMPLAINT!

the shops were ALL LOCATED NEAR/ADJACENT TO

HIGH END million dollar mountain homes.

Very strange indeed, that some residents of Lakeview homes in

the under $500,000 range cannot tolerate a similar business

as the million dollar home folks in Colorado and New Mexico!!!

  • blame the Republicans they say no to everything.

  • it's just a small video store on 236 and it's not an eyesore. are they going to also prevent porn from being viewed on the internet with an ordinance? They should worry about real crime not some video store trying to sell soft porn movies.

  • OLdtime.

I love that letter. The only thing Victoria County should be restricting is their spending.

  • How does this business selling adult movies hurt anyone? its just a small brick and mortar store, trying to make a living and they need to appeal to all customers to maximize their profit. Some people just live to find things in this town and to complain about them. If people stopped worrying about everyone else and worry about themselves then this town could probably be decent place to live.

  • thank you baylee~

I will try to do better!

    One person's eyesore is

    another person's delightful home!

You must live in one of the neutral colored

    perfectly manicured places.....

  • I drive by that place occasionally. IT IS A TOTAL EYESORE!!!!!

  • Here is a copy of a letter to Editor from wife of a local long time rancher.
The author to the letter is 91 yrs. old. Church going lady:

    Editor, the Advocate:

Some are trying to deprive us of freedoms given by the U.S. Constitution - the right to earn an honest living in an honest manner.

I have known Carole Luster all her life. She comes from a long line - on both sides of her family - of hard-working, honest Christians. After a failed marriage, she has supported herself and raised two handsome sons by dint of her imagination, entrepreneurship and a lot of hard work. She instilled the hard work ethic in her sons.

In addition to the movie shop, she makes seasonal costumes, has old-fashioned costumes for men, women and children in which you can have your photo made, and she sells real estate.

Debra, have you been in Carole's movie shop? There, you will see only family movies. The adult movies are but a small part of the total and are in an isolated, closed-off room, and only adults are allowed in there. I have been there when she told three young men that she would I.D. them if they wanted to go into that room. They left shortly after she told them that.

By the way, for X-rated, read the Song of Solomon in the Bible. Would you also have the Bible abolished?

  • The crux of this matter is:

Does the County have the right to placate a small interest group

by enacting a new set of rules for existing businesses?

My Movies To Go Video Shop is merely a little country Video Shop,

very similar to most other "traditional"Video Stores, as described

The problem is, a PRIVATE INTEREST GROUP

is attempting to circumvent the EXISTING REGULATIONS

    to appease THEIR PERSONAL AGENDAS!

    ("MAINTAINING PROPERTY VALUES)

When it became apparent that was their motive, they switched

gears to make it seem "FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTY)

To be accused of being an EROTIC SEX SHOP

IS SO FAR FROM THE HONEST TRUTH, IT IS THE HEIGHT OF

    STUPIDITY TO EVEN INSUATE THAT!

The Video Shop has been in business over 9 months now.

there has been NO INCREASE IN SEX CRIMES, PERVERTS IN THE

AREA, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF SUGGESTED INSINUATIONS!!

County Commissioners, IT IS TIME TO STOP CALLING MOVIES

TO GO AN EROTIC SEX SHOP!!!!!

that goes FOR YOU TOO RESIDENTS OF LAKEVIEW PRIVATE INTEREST GROUP.

The Movie Shop will continue. WITH HEARTFELT THANKS

to all the wonderful supportive families, friends and customers

that patronize us, and offer your continued support in light

    of this unfair situation.

  • Why would you buy a pornograph? They only play warped records...

    April 2, 2012 at 8:40 p.m.
  • What about the owners First Admendment rights. Would you trade in your second admendment rights because some people thought guns were offensive?

    April 2, 2012 at 8:18 p.m.
  • A sexually oriented business in Victoria County other than Maximus?!? Dang, where? I've seen video stores with partitioned sections for the good stuff, but that was only a part of the video business. I would have thought the internet would have just about killed the porn business.

Before the internet, I never looked at pornography -- I didn't have a pornograph.

    April 2, 2012 at 6:42 p.m.
  • However,

    A simple country Video store

with a good ratio of General Audience to

    Adult Titles

IS NOT A SEXUALLY ORIENTED BUSINESS!

Therefore, any regulations that would possibly be

created would certainly not be applicable

to a small Country Video Store!

Things got way out of hand regarding this situation!

    Very ugly rumors were published,

but after an investigation by Deputy Sheriff Investigator

of the premises, several months ago,

it was established that no such problem exists with Movies To Go.

This movie shop is NOT A SEXUALLY ORIENTED BUSINESS.

A SEXUALLY ORIENTED BUSINESS, according to current State Law of Texas, is a business that
derives the MAJORITY OF ITS BUSINESS FROM SEXUALLY ORIENTED MERCHANDISE.

Shops with huge libraries of sexual movies, sexual merchandise and items, etc.

Movies To Go IS NOT a shop like that.
