Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.



FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING MARCH 30

The New Rodeo, 407 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 55. Need to properly cool beans before storing in walk-in cooler. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to properly wash hands with soap and water. Drinks need to be in a spill-proof container. Oysters from an unapproved source were in the walk-in cooler. Any food kept in the walk-in more than four hours is recommended to be discarded. Need to store raw meat below other food. Need to work on date labeling all food in walk-in cooler. Need soap at all hand sinks. Need to clean all food contact surfaces. Seven facility or equipment violations.

McDonald's, 817 N. Wells St., Edna. Demerits: 27. Walk-in temperatures of 47 degrees for cheese and 46 degrees for creamer. Recommend discarding any food in cooler that has been in there for more than four hours. Need to wash, rinse and sanitize all dishes. Six facility or equipment violations.

Edna Country Club, County Road 301, Edna. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Beijing Garden, 113 S. Main St., Victoria. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Dodge City, 205-H North Star Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Taqueria Mi Familia, 209 S. Main St., Victoria. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Cuero Country Club, 1305 E. S. Railroad St., Cuero. Demerits: 5. Improper cold hold temperature.

Ganado Independent School District, 510 W. Rogers Ave., Ganado. Demerits: 4. Store raw meats below other food.

It Doesn't Matter, 612 1/2 West Devers Avenue, Ganado. Demerits: 4. Wash hands before putting on gloves.

Smokin' Pit and Grill, 612 W. Main St., Edna. Demerits: 3.

RE-INSPECTIONS

Gary's Corner Store, 1005 S. Wells St., Edna, inspected March 13 with 31 demerits. Re-inspected March 22, with improper cold hold temperature. Capri Sun and Kool-Aid Jammers should not be for individual sale. Need complete listing of ingredients. Date label deli select and packaged sandwiches, tuna and chicken salad with a use-by date. Clean the pickle tong dispenser. Continue to work on correcting violations.

Handi Kwik Food Mart, 805 N. Wells St., Edna, inspected March 13 with 22 demerits. Re-inspected March 22, with improper cold hold temperatures. Date label wings (corrected on site). Paper towels needed in restrooms (corrected on site). Need thermometer in tabletop. Store ice scoop on clean, sanitized surface. Need hand washing signs.
