Schupbach tops bowlers for high series

Kenney Schupbach enjoyed a nice week on the lanes with two big sets.

He bowled his big score during Sugar & Spice competition with two big games to earn the weekly honors.

After starting with a 193 game, Schupbach started stringing strikes and finished with games of 256 and 268 to total 717 for the night.

He also rolled a 255 game and 665 set in another league.

Other scores of note for the men were Mike Osterson (248-696/668/650), Steve Dickinson (276-694/256), Joey Matson (689), Justin Tweedle (268-686), Mike Stacy (677/257-676), Chris Kurtz (676), Klint Weinheimer (669), Richard Brotze (669), Steve Zeplin (666/254-654), Ray Rendon (665), Larry Mikulec (662), Ray Polensky (659), Scott Snow (658), Joe Wittenburg (658), Brian Hyden (256-653), David Chavez (275), Glenn Mason (269), Gary Hatter Jr. (266), Don Marques (259) and Rene Silgero (248).

Lori Heil posted the high series for the women while competing in the Monday Mixed League.

She rolled games of 191, 222, and 212 for a 625 series.

Christine Speer scored the second high total with a 213-607.

Scoring well also were Gloria Blaylock a nice 605 and Nancy Schmidt with a 224-596.

Vera Cruz Restaurant bowlers of the week were Eddie Stevens Sr. (778, Over The Hill) and Gloria Blaylock (725, Sundowners).



Professional

Andres Gomez, of Columbia, joined a growing number of international players to defeat America's bowling elite.

He beat Texan Wes Malott 246-207 in the finals of the Carmen Salvino Classic, which was broadcast Sunday. Gomez escaped being eliminated in the second match game by beating Jason Belmonte 189-162 before finding a good line for the finals.

Top seed Ronnie Russell was eliminated in the first game after a high-scoring match with Belmonte shooting 256, Gomez 253, Malott 250 and Russell 215.

The Pepsi PBA Elite Players Champions will be televised Sunday at noon on ESPN.



Local

The entry deadline for the 28th Annual Senior Mixed Tournament is Friday at midnight.

All Victoria USBC sanctioned bowlers that are 55 and over as of March 1, 2012 are eligible to bowl.

The tournament consists of a four-person team with at least one member of the opposite sex on the team. The singles event will have two divisions male and female.

Entries may be left at the Century Lanes desk for Wayne Conaway.
