Three Victoria East boy's soccer players were sent to a San Antonio area hospital after a fight broke out after the Titans' playoff match against Harlandale.

According to East coaches, Wyatt Fimbel, Esau Lopez and David Andrade were all hospitalized as a precaution.

East head coach Tim Eaton was also hit during the melee, which started about 8:45 p.m. East won the game 1-0.

"I didn't see anything," Eaton said. "I was on the ground. I fell at the first punch.

"I started grabbing for our kids and that was it."

Eaton said he and the players who were punched intend to seek criminal charges.

The East coaching staff said a parent filmed the game and caught the incident on camera.

Titans assistant coach Brady Cagle said the film will show a Harlandale forward punching Ben Flores, who returned to Victoria with the team Thursday.

According to Harlandale ISD Superintendent Robert Jaklich, administrators will meet early Tuesday morning to review the situation and issue necessary disciplinary action.

"This is not the type of district we are and this will be handled accordingly," Jaklich said. "We are going to do the right thing, and we apologize to the Victoria community.

"We are very sorry this happened."

VISD Athletic Director Ralph Escalona was not at the match, but said the situation is being reviewed.

COLE FIMBEL NOTCHES ONLY GOAL AS EAST BEATS HARLANDALE

SAN ANTONIO – Victoria East defeated San Antonio Harlandale 1-0 Thursday, earning itself a date early next week with either Roma or Pharr Valley View.

Entering the Class 4A sectional contest the Titans (18-3-2) discussed limiting their mistakes defensively and finding a way to contain Indians forward Jesus Gomez. They did both and as a result advance further than any Victoria varsity soccer team has in more than a decade.

Cole Fimbel converted a penalty kick for the Titans with 10 minutes remaining in the first half to segregate the sides.

It was the second time in three playoff games Fimbel has converted a penalty kick that decided the game.

The Valley View-Roma playoff game is Friday night in Sharyland.

However, the greater concern for the senior will likely be the condition of his younger brother, Wyatt. The freshman midfielder was reportedly one of four Titans sent to the hospital following a post-game fight between the two teams.
