• Raven,

It is very sad that you have completely missed the point. People are not supposed to die or be injured while in custody. There is a huge problem in our county jail. I sincerely hope there are some compassionate folks in our community that believe going to jail is not a death sentence and expect accountability by the VSO.

I hope the VicAd staff is going to follow up on these senseless events. Has there been any additional details on the previous suicide and how the jail system failed to monitor the inmates 27/7.

  • Jeez!!! Make up you'lls mind! First you'll say "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS AND SAVE THE TAX PAYER MONEY". Now it' the jailer fault. Damn people, he left a note behind, He had an intention. Then you'll say, "THE POLICE NEED TO DO MORE". Now, all they are is THUGS WITH BADGES.
And the comment about not getting assistance when your in there. REALLY!?!?!?!?! Are you kidding me! Jail is not a vacation getaway moron. It's bad enough that inmates get better treatment then those on the outside, Free Food, Medical, Education and all on the behalf of the tax payer. If you don't like it, theennnnnnnnn don't break the law! Simple. And please, don't give me the sob story.

  • You hit the nail on the head abovblo the US Marshal's are nothing but thugs with a badge They have the mentality that they can do anything they please and no boundaries that they can go to. Local enforcement are intimidated by them seen it happen. No telling what the poor guy went through before they locked him up. Would like to see this story from the beginning to end if someone in the Advocate would follow up a investigative report and see what really went down.

  • I do not know what side of the US Marshal's this man was with, but US Marshal's are very ugly people. They have no respect for life. My husband had dealings with them in the Karnes City correctional and they were awful people. If this man did not have suicidal thoughts, they were enough to get him suicidal. My husband states that what they put you through makes you think of taking your own life. As for the Victoria County Jail, they need to clean up their employees. Where were the guards? From what my husband says, it is hard to get any assistance from anyone when your there. People commit crimes and should be punished for it, but not in an inhumane way. Life is life no matter where you come from. My condolences to the family.

  • vet43 you make a really good point. the Victoria county jail has already been in violation of not doing visual checks of the segregated inmates or the female inmates in the holding tank. if this new sheriff wants to make a good change he should start with the employees on his payroll. the male guards at the Victoria county jail are very lazy and useless. you have a little better of a chance of getting half a** descent help from the female officers that work at the county jail. my thoughts and prayers go out to this mans family.

  • Our condolences go to the inmates family and loved ones.

This is very sad and seems to be problem at the Victoria County Jail. Has anyone seen the out come of the last suicide in the jail? Is there a CC TV system and how often are the inmates checked on by jailors?

How does this rate with other jails this size? Maybe the Victoria Advocate could provide the readers with some investigative reporting.
