ADVOCATE STAFF REPORT

The 40-year-old man who was found hanging at the Victoria County Jail in his single-occupancy cell Saturday evening has been identified.

Marcus Duprey Washington, of Victoria, was pronounced dead at Citizens Medical Center after Victoria County Sheriff's Office jailers attempted CPR, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Washington was charged in September with two counts of possessing a weapon where prohibited and two counts of aggravated assault after he was suspected of shooting a gun during an argument at the Victoria College gymnasium.

An investigation, which will include an autopsy, is being led by the sheriff's office, United State Marshal's Service and Texas Rangers.
