• Name: Philip Miller

• Age: 61

• City/county of residence: El Campo, Wharton

• Occupation: County Commissioner Precinct 3

• Political party: Republican

Office Seeking: County Commissioner Precinct 3

1. Why do you want to serve in this position?

I enjoy serving the citizens of Wharton County Precinct 3 and the rest of the county. The contact I have with the people and being able to work together to solve any problems that may arise.

2. What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I have served in this position for the past 16 years. Prior to that, I served on the El Campo City Council for nine years, farmed for 28 years, was president of the Wharton County Farm Bureau, president of Sam Houston RC&D and president of the El Campo Area Workshop for the Developmentally Disabled. During this time I have worked on setting budgets and operating under the constraints of those budgets. Also I have had to work on road construction and drainage, which is a never-ending issue in this country.

3. If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

By providing to them the service that they need and deserve with the budgeted dollars we have to work with. Hopefully this will allow the precinct to increase the number of hard surfaced roads, repair the existing hard surfaced roads and gravel roads, keep improving the bridge system and improving the drainage system. All of this and keeping the taxpayers' taxes as low as we possibly can.

4. Phone number, address, email address or website where people can contact you for more information.

I can be reached at my office 979-543-0091.

• Office Seeking: County Commissioner, Precinct 3

1. Why do you want to serve in this position?

As a lifelong resident of Wharton County I would like the opportunity to give back to my community and county. My goal is to assist the citizens.

2. What qualifies you to serve in this office?

Vast work experiences will benefit me as commissioner. I was an Emergency Medical Technician/firefighter for 5 ½ years. I was a certified instructor for the American Heart Association and taught CPR courses in Wharton and surrounding counties. For the next 32 years I farmed rice, row crop, and raised cattle. I served on the U.S. Rice Producers, Rice Farmers Co-op, Rice Marketing Association, and Farm Service Agency boards. My surveying business requires a knowledge of drainage, soil preparation and chemicals. My business ventures require planning, long hours, equipment use and maintenance and coordinating with people to meet their needs.

3. If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

If elected I will serve as a full-time commissioner, which will enable me to respond where and when needed. I will have an open-door policy with my employees and constituents in order to create better communication. I will strive to keep taxes low by eliminating unnecessary spending. The safety and well being of the citizens will be the basis for my decisions. Maintaining roads and improving drainage will be a priority, along with keeping good law enforcement and water quality.• 4.
