Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.



FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 13

Fastrak Express, 2004 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 18. Need ingredient labels on tacos for self-serve. Dispose of expired lunch meat. Keep a time/temperature log on tacos if not holding at 135 degrees. Two facility or equipment violations.

Daniel's Tacos, 902 W. Main St., Edna. Demerits: 16. Improper cold hold temperature. Follow guidelines for avoiding cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods. Need to follow guidelines for manual/mechanical warewashing and sanitizing.

Whataburger, 905 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 15. Address problem with flies. Hand sink is not draining. Clean and sanitize the ice machine. Five facility or equipment violations.

Gary's Drive Inn, 601 W. Main St., Edna. Demerits: 11. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to store paper goods six inches off ground. Need proper ingredient label for candy in the front by register. Deli sandwiches need to be date-labeled with seven-day use-by date. One facility or equipment violation.

Texana Food Mart, 1021 S. Wells St., Edna. Demerits: 11. Wash hands before putting gloves on. Ice bags need proper labels. One facility or equipment violation.

DeWitt County Jail, 208 E. Live Oak St., Cuero. Demerits: 6. Two facility or equipment violations.

Cowboy Stadium, 1303 W. Gayle St., Edna. Demerits: 6. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to post consumer advisories.

Whataburger No. 428, 112 E. Houston Highway, Edna. Demerits: 6. Improper cold hold temperature. Two facility or equipment violations.

Frontier Barbecue Inc., 608 N.E. St., Edna. Demerits: 4. Store raw meat below cooked foods and produce.

Meat Center, 3035 Farm-to-Market Road 822, Edna. Demerits: 4. Date label deli meat with seven-day use-by date. Improper cold hold temperature.

Kacer's Kwik Stop, 1006 S. Third St., Ganado. Demerits: 4. Need use-by dates on deli items. Improper cold hold temperature.

Evelyn's Seafood Market, 732 Broadway St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 4. Can not sell Capri Suns individually. Not labeled for individual sale.

Hopkins Elementary Cafeteria, 110 Hopkins Road, Victoria. Demerits: 4. Keep spray nozzle 2 inches above sink when not in use.

RE-INSPECTIONS

Hard Hat Cafe LLC, 901 N. Esplanade St., Cuero, inspected April 3 with 33 demerits. Re-inspected April 10, with the cold hold violation not corrected. Recommend relocating all potentially hazardous foods to working cooler. Continue to address other violation.

La Plazita, 206 W. Main St., Cuero, inspected April 3 with 29 demerits. Re-inspected April 10, with the cold hold violation corrected. Continue to work on correcting other violations.

Daniel's Tacos, 902 W. Main St., Edna, inspected April 9 with 16 demerits. Re-inspected April 11, with needing to continue to address critical violations. Improper cold hold temperature.

J and J Drive Inn, 602 S. Third St., Ganado, inspected Jan. 12 with 19 demerits. Re-inspected April 5, with the cold hold violation corrected. Need manufacturer's permit and labels on bagged ice. Need thermometer in deli case. Date label bags of sausage rolls.
