St. Joseph golf one shot off lead at state tournament

TEMPLE -The St. Joseph Lady Flyers are just one shot off the lead after the first day of the TAPPS 5A Golf Tournament at Wildflower Country Club.

St. Joseph posted a first team score of 331 and trails Dallas Ursuline Academy by one stroke. The Lady Flyers have a 33-stroke lead on third place Addison Trinity Christian.

Madelyn Buhler and Chloe Velasco are the two Lady Flyers in the Top 10 after Day 1.

Buhler is tied with Talia Campbell of the Ursuline Academy after posting a first round score of 73. Velasco posted a first day score of 81 and is currently in seventh place.

Beth Hickner is tied for 12th after posting an 88 and Kaitlyn Cantu is tied for 15th after shooting an 89.

Kimberly Chavarria is in 25th place after posting a 97.

The TAPPS Class 5A State Tournament concludes on Tuesday.
