In August of 2005 I walked into the new Bay City High School building as a freshman both excited about, and a little intimidated by, finally being in High School. I will never forget that day. All of the freshmen were instructed to go to their assigned home room teacher to receive their student schedules. My home room teacher was Mrs. Julie Estlinbaum; the first High School teacher I met. Mrs. Estlinbaum found a way to make each of us new students feel comfortable and at ease. After she read my name on the roster she said "I know you are going to be a good student with a name like Ezra; it's an old name that carries strength and leadership". I will never forget those encouraging words.

I had Mrs. Estlinbaum as a teacher my freshman and senior years in social studies courses. It was in these courses that I really gained an interest in political participation, an understanding of how government works, and an appreciation for alternative views when it comes to governance and the political party system. Mrs. Estlinbaum never tried to push any personal political view or opinion on her students but did encourage students to discuss the relevant social/political issues of the time and she let us know it's always necessary to support one's views and statements with facts, and not emotion alone.

Mrs. Estlinbaum is a true leader as well as upstanding in her views and actions. For these reasons, I support her in her efforts to become a member of the City Council of Bay City. I wish her all the best!
