  • In today's time you have 3D big screens, up to 9 speakers 2 sub-woofer setup, home theater furniture, streaming using VUDU, NetFlix, Amazon and Hulu, being able to pause, food and breaks most people can in the comfort of home.

As far it being a social thing, most will pass on that because of the mentioned types above and prices at the local theater. Hollywood tried giving them a boost with 3D, but most homes screens do a better job of 3D.

There has been talks with higher internet bandwidth being able to watch new release theater movies broadcasted from the local theater, of course with a fee and a time limit but the money stays locally. Game consoles killed the quarter arcade and streaming will reshape the movie entertainment.

  • Half the fun of going to the movies is watching everybody else doing what ever they are doing. That's where the entertainment is. I remember one day a group of people came in and this one guy was talking orders so I ask him to bring me a colk and pop corn and he did. HA HA I still don't know his name.. lighten up people and enjoy yourself. life is too short to be mad all the time.

  • People are funny. If it isn't a theater squeezing the complaints out of patrons, it is a local play that has way too much talk about the "S" word or how one restaurant deserves zero stars because "patron 1 and 2" didn't receive 5 star service, to include a foot wash! Aside from those truly lacking in consideration (ie...cell phone talkers and texters with their bright lights), people are going to live. If you want silence...take your dinghy into the mid atlantic. People have children who talk. They have babies who cry. They like to kiss and hold hands. Maybe they are 6'7 instead of the local average 5'....your seat is going to get touched. Teenagers, well they are simply rude and could care less about the world around them as they truly are the center of their own universe. I could certainly understand if a couple who hasn't been able to get out really tries to get away with their baby. So the baby cries. If the parents don't get up or walk around the aisle in an attempt to calm that baby or do not take the baby out after so long, sure, I can see the problem. Or a couple in love who is overcome by love and cannot help but run their fingers through each others hair. But for the most part, they are not malicious. None of them are malicious. Even Mr. Stinky or Mrs. Stinky who cannot manage to go out in public without wearing copious amounts of the most obnoxious cheap perfume...they are just living like you...the cynic: Everything they say resembles crap as it comes out of their mouth (love south park)!

  • You left out
the literary critic: they've read the book, and want EVERYBODY to know where the movie deviates from it.
Rerun: They already saw the movie. so anything that is coming up they want to make sure their companions pay attention to. First cousin to the Know-It-All. "Ohh this next part is good. watch what happens when the door opens"
The theater critic: they're carrying on commentary the whole film about how they should have gone to another theater to see THIS movie because the crowd HERE doesn't appreciate the artistic quality of the film.

  • Why bother going to the movies any way? I have a dolby digital surround sound system and a 1080pi LCD 40" TV and the cleanest bathroom and all the food I want at my own home not to mention the best most comfortable seat ever. I don't have to put up with the other peoples problems and attitudes. To heck with the theater! I'll stay home for the best movie experience.

  • Most of the time there are some issues. The kicked with the cell phones is that it is the older generation (50s on up) that I have found to be the worst offenders. It is like they do not know how to silence phone, send to voicemail or afraid of accessing voicemail, and when they answer....they talk super loud.

  • Or how about the wonderful parents who bring their toddler and let them run up and down the stairway. Or the potheads who smog you out. Or the need a motel couple.

  • Your experience is why so many people now opt to view movies at home.

  • I've seen all the types mentioned before in theaters.

Here at Cinemark, There are only two that are common.

The backseat Kicker and the worst one... those damn cell phone users. Not so much the talking on the phones as it is the texting.

They think that using the phone is just fine so long as they are not talking on the phone. Those damn screens in a darkened theater though are like spotlights.

I have absolutely no problem asking them to stop, and when they don't. taking their phone from them and turning it in to management.

Judging by the advertisements prior to the show start, The company itself is taking a harder line on those who disrupt the shows.
No more, "please turn off your cell phones now, thank you".
Now it's, "We don't want to have to throw you out but we will. Turn your cell phones off NOW!"

I have yet to see if the actual local management follows through on it though.

  • Sounds to me like a bunch of sour grapes... I've been to the movie theater plenty of times; and fro the most part when the movie starts movie attendees are respectful! I'm sure those same kids you old farts are complaining about will be saying the same thing when they get old..

    April 25, 2012 at 3:17 p.m.
  • Times are not the way they used to be. Kids are so disrespectful and gross. Sorry, I should have said people are so disrespectful and gross. Our experiences have been with kids not adults, that is why I made that remark. That is why we don't go to the movies....we just rent them. MUCH BETTER ATMOSPHERE!!
