VC pitcher helps Pirates finish strong

Billy Sippel was named the National Club Baseball Association District VII Pitcher of the Week for the Victoria College Pirates baseball team.

Sippel turned in an electrifying performance in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the club team from Texas Christian University over the weekend, striking out 19 batters in seven innings.

He allowed three runs (2 earned), two hits and three walks and also added a solo home run at the plate to lead the Pirates to a 4-3 victory.

Robbie Trenck went 2 for 3 with one stolen base, while Cody Pemberton hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh.

In Game 2, VC won 12-4. Cody Clayton pitched an outstanding game with 13 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Pirates' bats were alive with Trenck once again going 2 for 3 with a triple. Casey Rinehart also hit a triple, going 2 for 3 against TCU.

Zachary Garcia's bat was hot also as he went 2 for 3 with a three-run homer.

The Pirates finished conference play in second place to A&M Corps of Cadets, an outstanding finish in the first year of participation in the NCBA league.

During pregame ceremonies, the VC Pirates baseball team recognized their field sponsors for their support helping to build the VISD Special Events Baseball Field back to performance level.

Their donations helped rebuild the pitching mound and home plate, in addition to helping fund ongoing field maintenance.

The Pirates are grateful for their support. This year's sponsors include Wells Fargo, Goyen Electric, Pro Field Services and the Mendez Family from Bloomington.

Congratulations to the Pirates on a great season!
