Name: Roger Galvan

Age: 67

City/county of residence: Port Lavaca, Calhoun County

Occupation: Incumbent

Political party: Democrat

Office Seeking: Calhoun County Commissioner Precinct 1

Why do you want to serve in this position?

I want to complete some projects that I now have in progress, and there are quite a few. I have some pre-approved grants that are still pending and I need to see them completed and I feel I am the one who will see that the job is done. I'm a hands-on county commissioner.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I've been a hands-on commissioner for the last 12 years. I have met all of the requirements that the office needs. I've attended all of these schools and all of the hours of necessary instruction mandated by the state and I feel that I am a certified county commissioner court member

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

I have an old motto that I go by, "Don't do anything where your mama will be ashamed of you." I respond to all calls I receive and work out as many problems as I can with my constituents. Even though I can't keep them all happy, I've kept about 90 percent content.

Name: Diana Manschot

Age: 61

City/county of residence: Port Lavaca, Calhoun County

Occupation: Chief court clerk Justice of the Peace Precinct 1

Political Party: Democrat

Office seeking: Calhoun County Commissioner Precinct 1

Why do you want to serve in this position?

I chose to live in Calhoun County more than 20 years ago because of the vision I could see of opportunities the county has to offer. We can offer the beaches and other recreational area, ready for growth and development, good education and public safety to all who live here and others who visit. I haven't seen the area of Precinct 1 improve much during the past 10 years. I am willing to work hard to see these improvements through.

What qualifies you to serve in this position?

I have been the chief court clerk for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 for the past five years. Prior work experience included Calhoun County YMCA. My experience varies with budgeting, cost analysis, scheduling of employees working with the local business leaders, city officials and school district employees. My unique qualification is the ability to listen to the needs and use all resources available to meet those needs.

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

I will serve our constituents by listening to their concerns and taking action on improvements needed. I will focus on providing high quality services while keeping taxes at a minimum. I offer my leadership with common sense, accountability and transparency and be dedicated to them and meeting their needs. The decision to run for this office isn't about me, but to be able to help people like me.
