  • Yes Mike, I remember the day. What a Day! Even though I am a Reagan Republican. It was originally scheduled to be at DeLeon Plaza, all of a sudden Clinton Aides ran out of the Welder Center and said it was being moved to the corner of Goodwin and Main, right where I and my son were standing. Front row standing. President Clinton was much shorter than I thought he would be.We even shook hands. He is quite a speaker, almost encouraged me to vote for Hillary. In the voting booth, at the last minute I switched back to a Republican ticket. Actually, I think Clinton is the best real Republican-like President in recent memory.

  • Thanks Dale for reminding me of one the most memorable days of my life;the day President Bill Clinton came to Victoria. Wall to wall people as far as the eye could see from the downtown plaza to St. Mary's and all around and the money we spent on security was well spent, considering the alternative....IMO

I respectfully disagree on the grants because Victoria is growing and getting all equipment, weaponry and communication software at a discounted price is pretty forward thinking..IMO

I can understand how he would be on a defensive where a lot of people don't want to see their property taxes go up $1.25 even if it is for security..:-)

Grants "is it free money?" is a topic for another discussion but I guess you know what side I will come on...lol

    Have a good day.

  • I thought it was excellent as usual. It would be nice if it could be a series of forums so that each candiate could have more questions and time to let us learn about them. I realize that would be very time consuming and a lot of work!

But, hat's off to the League and Kathy Hunt! Always a great job! Thank you for providing this service to Victoria.

  • Excuse me, I stand corrected. The Clinton protection force was a joint SO and PD, requested by a Federal agency.

  • Sheriff O'Connor was asked a question about the "militarization of the Sheriff Department." T. Michael appeared to become very defensive in his response. In my 30 years of knowing him, I have never witnessed him respond so defensively. But looking at the recent SO past, "militarization" appears to be the proper word.

Give me some examples? OK. When Former President Clinton spoke in Victoria four years ago the Sheriff Department ( I do not think it was the PD) was in full force complete with black uniforms, helmet, vests, and what appeared sub-machine pistols. Sniper rifles. The SO purchased as I recall two very long range "sniper" rifles. The mobile command post which sits in front of the SO. The dark brown Dodge Chargers with black out side window glass. Specialty software which is supposedly not compatible with other Victoria County Departments. And T. Michael said he is getting all this stuff for "free" at military surplus sales? And he is getting all of these grants with "free" money. (There is no free money.)

If my recollections are incorrect, please correct me. Otherwise, we really do not need all of this stuff unless there are plans to put down insurrections and arrest our local government and business leaders.
