Victoria College will host the Crossroads Area Dental Conference from 7:45 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Friday in the college's Health Sciences Center, Room 131.
Tuesday is the deadline to register for the conference.
Sponsored by the college's Workforce and Continuing Education and the Guadalupe Valley District Dental Society, this conference is for dentists, hygienists, assistants and others who may be interested in dental health and local dental health issues.
Conference topics will address clinical issues specific to dental offices.
Lisa Heinrich-Null will begin with a presentation on "Working Smarter in the Dental Office."
"Lisa is an experienced dentist who will offer tips and techniques for accomplishing routine dental office tasks with efficiency and economy to help increase productivity," said Marilyn Powell, coordinator of Allied Health Workforce and Continuing Education at Victoria College.
Col. Craig Willard, of Fort Sam Houston Dental Activities, will help professionals increase their skills in identifying key symptoms of at least three forms of oral/maxillary/facial pathology.
Jose Villa, from Brooks Army Medical Center's Department of Cardiology, will address the need for dental providers to check their patient's blood pressure manually and detect cardiac arrhythmias.
"In order to help increase detection skills and provide practice in identifying arrhythmias, we are planning hands-on activities for conference participants using equipment in VC's state-of-the-art nursing labs," said Powell.
Villa will also lead a discussion on how health changes in the elderly impact dental care.
