Aug. 6, 2012 at 3:06 a.m.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announces adjustments to the operational procedures at the swing bridge located near Sargent, Texas. To better accommodate and improve safety for barges, the bridge will swing open sooner as the barges approach. This may result in a longer wait time for motorists traveling across the intracoastal canal to the island.
The adjusted operational procedure is at the request of the United States Coast Guard, in the interest of barge safety.
