Graduate honored with surprise celebration

Miguel Perez was honored on June 23 with a surprise barbecue graduation celebration. The event was hosted by his uncles, Gene and Jaime Poncio, in DaCosta. Miguel is a January 2012 graduate of Victoria East High School and participated in the June 3 graduation ceremonies. He has also completed his first semester at The Victoria College where he is working toward his Associate of Applied Science degree in Biology, majoring in pre-med. He is also the recipient of the Robert Hewitt Sr. Endowed Scholarship. Perez is the son of Oscar and Janie Cavazos, of Victoria, and the late Juan Poncio Jr. He is the grandson of Juan and Alice Poncio, of Victoria, and the late Severo and Berta Vela. Perez is also the single father of Juan Angel Perez.
