Photo contest winner is the one on top, a photo by Christy Hernandez.
The idea behind a photo is to capture that moment, and this photo of 1-year-old Blake Ian Garza does just that.
His wide smile reminds his mother, Christy Hernandez, just how joyous the little things in life can be.
"It just captures the water splashing and his reaction," she said, excited about winning the "Keeping Cool" photo contest. "It's priceless."
Hernandez, of Victoria, wins two free movie passes.
Blake is also the son of Lilo Garza, of Victoria.
With the unrelenting heat, it was refreshing to see photos of families (including pets) beating the heat the only way people living in Texas know how - with water.
Whether it was the sands of a Gulf Coast beach, or the pool in their own backyard, the smiling faces of children splashing and jumping into the water was priceless.
It wasn't only about the water though. Some photos showed the truth of relaxing in the shade, enjoying a hot summer day.
Our newest photo contest is almost the same, but not quite. We're not the only ones who need to stay cool from this blistering heat; our four-legged furry friends also need to relax and stay fresh. We want to see how your pets beat the heat.
Send photos to victoriaadvocate.com/addphoto by 5 p.m. Sept. 7. Include a description of who is in the photo and what is going on in the photograph and you could win two free movie tickets.
