I started licking my chops at the chance to try more Mexican cuisine in Victoria. Couldn't wait to savor the flavor at La Fogata Bar & Grill.
It's an easy find because it's right on U.S. Highway 77.
I haven't seen or heard much about the place because it opened in July.
The outdoor aesthetic reminded me of an old Western showdown.
As soon as I went inside, I noticed the glass counter with all the different forms of currency. The detail added nice character.
It took some time to be seated, the staff was pretty busy. Eventually I asked someone the protocol, and the cashier told me that said someone would be with me soon.
After a few more minutes passed, my guest and I were seated.
Once my waitress arrived, she was pleasant and accommodating.
My eyes glossed over the full menu with steaks, seafood and other Tex-Mex delicacies.
The tortilla chips were tasty enough for me to want to order the nachos.
I ordered a mix of beef and chicken nachos as an appetizer, but I didn't receive them. It would have taken more time that was already limited.
For an entree, I chose the Fajitas a la Mexicana, with chicken, beef and shrimp to get a sampling of the different meats.
The smell of fresh shrimp tickled my nose, it was that powerful. I made an excellent choice. It was more than enough food for me to eat in one sitting.
The rice was so delicious I scraped the skillet to get every little bit, and even thought about ordering a serving to take home.
The sauteed onions were delectable and enriched the flavor of an already tasty dish.
The tortillas were piping hot and fresh, although I wish had more than two. I would have liked to receive more cheese, lettuce and salsa with the dish.
I saw several other tables waiting for their food at the same time. My gut reaction tells me this restaurant is getting into its routine. It may take some time, but this place has a lot of potential. I would recommend this place.
