Chili's donating portion of Friday sales to aid ill employee

Len Stratton takes an order from his customer Santos Garcia of Port Lavaca, at Chili's Grill & Bar. Stratton serves tables at Chili's, and even though he has hearing impediments, he successfully does his job and connects with his colleagues at the restaurant.

When Ramona Casares collapsed at work during her shift as a waitress at Chili's on May 22, no one dreamed the 26-year-old wouldn't be back to work by now.

Three months later, she continues to undergo treatment and therapy in a Houston rehabilitation hospital after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm that night.

On Friday, Chili's, 5004 N. Navarro St., is donating 10 percent of sales to help defray Casares' medical bills to customers with a special fundraiser flyer. If ordering to go, mention the flyer for the discount.

Members of Casares' family and friends will have the flyers in the Chili's parking lot.

A fund has also been established at TDECU. Donations should be made to the Ramona K. Casares Fund.
