A 60-year-old man is moved on a stretcher to an ambulance after his Honda Accord struck a tree in a yard in the 2300 block of North Wheeler Street on Saturday.

A 60-year-old man was taken to Citizens Medical Center after his vehicle crashed into a tree in the 2300 block of North Wheeler Street.

The wreck occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday. Authorities did not release the victim's name.

Roger Hempel, Victoria Fire Department battalion chief, said the man's injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.

The driver was northbound on Wheeler Street when his Honda Accord jumped the curb and struck an oak tree. A phone line was damaged in the crash.

Witnesses told Hempel that the man was slouched over the steering wheel before the impact. Alcohol was not a factor.

The vehicle's airbag was deployed, and the front hood was smashed.

Police are investigating the cause.
