Trends: Steers and heifers, steady/softer.

Steers: (200-300) $140-$202; (300-400) $130-$180; (400-500) $128-$161; (500-600) $113-$160; (600-700) $108-$129; and (700-800) $90-$117.

Heifers: (200-300) $105-$180; (300-400) $100-$162; (400-500) $97-$145; (500-600) $90-$135; (600-700) $96-$120; and (700-800) $90-$117.

Slaughter cows: $40-$83; slaughter bulls, $75-$99; stocker cows, $60-$100; bred cows, $560-$1,000; pairs, $1,000-$1,555; horses, $50-$330.

CUERO

Aug. 24

Receipts: 1,585

Had 95 cows and 17 bulls. Again, there were not many cows and bulls on hand. The market was essentially the same to a little weaker from last week's market. Packers took a little off due to slow time of the year. Overall, the market did not look much different.

The calf market settle back after last week's up market. Fat calves and bull calves over 550 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. Bigger steers as well as thinner types were steady with a strong market. Heifers over 550 pounds were also lower by $2 to $3. Most calves under 450 pounds were steady but not many calves were weighing in that range.

Packer bulls: Heavy weights, $90-$99; lower grades, $82-$88.

Packer cows: breakers, $65-$71.50; boning cows, $68-$84.50; canners and cutters, $68-$82; light and weak, $40-$70.

Palpated dry cows: $84-$106; pairs: none.

Steer calves: (under 200) none; (200-250) none; (250-300) $201-$212; (300-350) $187-$220;(350-400) $175-$200; (400-450) $159-$194; (450-500) $156-$180; (500-600) $139-$159; (550-600) $131-$151;(600-700) $128-$135; (700-800) $123-$126.

Compared to our last sale: Calves and yearlings sold steady. Packer cows sold steady.

Compared to last week: The calf market was a little weaker this week. Fleshy heavy weights were mostly $2 to $4 lower. Lighter weights 500 pounds and down were steady to $3 lower. Demand was good on the classes with a little condition and a little weaker on the fleshy kinds.

Packer cows and bulls sold fully steady on about 110 head total.

Packer cows: Higher dressing utility and cutter cows, $75-$87.50; lower dressing utility and cutter cows, $63-$75; light weight canner cows, $53-$63.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, $97-$103.50; utility and cutter bulls, $89-$97; light weight canner bulls, $78-$89.
