Attendees of the Downtown Victoria Pub Crawl may have lighter wallets and bigger smiles the next day.

Close to 300 people participated in the smartphone challenge while stopping by downtown businesses.

Contestants had the option to purchase alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages.

Ray Hines and Tammy Coffey were declared the winners Sunday morning.

The victors were scheduled to be announced the evening of the event. However, the organizers were unclear of what to expect of how the scores were determined through the SCVNGR app.

Victoria Main Street Program administrators posted a Facebook comment thanking patrons for being patient: "It was a learning process for us all. Next time will be better!!"

Jeb Lacey didn't fare so well in the competition, but enjoyed the initiative.

"I got to see Victorians taking pride in their city," he said.

The 31-year-old Victoria native said the crawl helped to patronize downtown businesses while giving residents a chance to connect.

The inaugural promotion lasted a few hours, but the memories remained for a lifetime.

Lacey, who serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the city of Victoria and the county, described the growth and development as an exciting time.

He said he wanted to thank everyone who helped make the event successful.
