Labor Day weekend is an ideal time to lick your chops and kick up your heels.

But this national holiday means more than just an extended weekend, it's a time to celebrate your hard work. You could choose to stay home, but that's just silly when there are so many activities in the Crossroads.

Whether you want to showcase your cooking or vocal talents, show off your award-winning car, or just drink a cold one while listening to artists in the Texas music scene, there is an activity for you.

No need to cover your eyes or ears at the Nekkid Armadilla Summer Fest, even on a Sunday.

Riff House Radio will host the inaugural festival at the Outrigger Grill in Palacios. Promoter Tim Slusher said the name is deemed to be as tempting as it sounds with musical acts from the region, as well as from Dallas and New Braunfels.

"The name catches people, so we stuck with it," he said.

For those who want to be seen and heard on stage, Two Step Dance Hall & Lounge wants to give you that chance. Sing away your end-of-summer blues at the End of Summer Karaoke Contest. On Thursday, those who dare to grace the stage will have their chance to win a $500 grand prize.

Contestants will be rated on stage presence, singing ability and crowd response.

Flip-flop may not be a great word in politics, but it's all you'll hear in Port Lavaca on Saturday for the Flip Flop Festival 2012.

Houston native Jack Ingram will serve as the headliner for the fun-filled event.

Tina Crow, executive director of Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce, said the award-winning musician is sure to be a crowd pleaser because of his high energy.

"The crowd is going to go wild," she said.
