For those affected by Capgemini's Friday announcement, Workforce Solutions of the Golden Crescent might be able to help. For more information, call 361-578-0341 or visit www.gcworkforce.org.
More than 200 Crossroads residents will soon be without jobs.
Capgemini, a consulting, technology and outsourcing company, is in the process of completing work at its Victoria site, Jill Wilmot, a company spokeswoman, said in a Friday email.
Changing business conditions mean client work will end in late October, she said, and the center will then close.
Capgemini employs seven people at the 1309 E. Red River St. center, she said, while 217 people are contract workers employed through Randstad US.
Employees on Friday were given 60 days' notice that their assignments would end, Lesly Cardec, a Randstad spokeswoman, said in an email.
She said the company welcomes other local businesses to the facility to conduct on-site interviews. Affected employees can receive job search assistance through the company's network offices, she said, while additional support and resources are available through the Texas Workforce Commission.
Most of the employees are registered with the Texas Workforce Commission and should be able to easily reactivate their applications, said Henry Guajardo, executive director of Workforce Solutions of the Golden Crescent. He suggested they update their information to show current employment.
For those not registered, he suggested they visit WorkInTexas.com and create a profile.
The good news, Guajardo said, is that the company's employees should not find it difficult to find work.
"They have great customer service skills and computer skills," he said. "Those should really help in getting them back into the labor force."
Victoria's market will likely absorb the workers quickly, Guajardo said Friday.
"This is a good time to look for a job, or look for a better job," he said.
Employees receiving child care assistance might be eligible for 30 days of child care while they search for a new position, he said. Application help, search workshops and more are also available.
"We have an array of services we can provide them," he said. "We're prepared to help."
