Matejek family hosts reunion
The 33rd Matejek Reunion was held at the Yorktown Fire Department meeting room on Oct. 28 in Yorktown.
After the blessing led by Margaret Matejek, everyone enjoyed the noon meal brought by the families attending. A short business meeting followed the meal.
A time of silence was observed to remember those who have passed on since last year's reunion: Betty Hemmi, Annie J. Henke, Dave Matejek, William Matejek and Margie Matejek.
Cash prizes were awarded to the following winners: oldest lady, Evelyn Matejek Janyssek, of Yorktown, 74 years old; oldest gentleman, Clarence Matejek, of Cuero, 81 years old; youngest child, Hayden Leist, of Yorktown, 4 years old; longest married, Buddy and Shirley Wolff, of Gonzales, 44 years; most recently wed, Ricky and Janice Parker, of Goliad, 8 years; traveled farthest, Crayton Matejek, of Waco; first time attendee, Katie Nelson, of Victoria; kid's prize, Hayden Leist, of Yorktown; and main door prize, Richard Matejek, of Yorktown.
In lieu of the silent auction this year, names were drawn for gift items with everyone in attendance receiving a gift.
Thanks go to John Carpenter, of Yoakum, for handling the live auction; Diane Moeller, of Meyersville, for registering the attendees and taking photos; Sharon and Carl Matejek, of Yorktown, for preparing for the reunion; Margaret Matejek, of Cuero, for presiding over the business meeting; Shirley Wolff, of Gonzales, for keeping the records of the business meeting and live auction; and to all who helped in any way to make our reunion a success.
The next reunion will be at the Yorktown Fire Department meeting room on Oct. 27, 2013.
