Food service inspections for Nov. 21-28
The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.
FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING NOV. 30:
M and M Pinto Bean No. 2, 202 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 57. Improper cold hold temperature. Employees need to wash hands in between tasks. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Do not store medications in the tabletop with customers' food. Need to cover food in coolers. Need to use gloves or utensils when handling ready-to-eat foods. Must store raw meat below other food. Need to date label food in coolers. Need to keep hot water on at hand sink in kitchen. Need soap and paper towels at hand sink in kitchen. Address problem with flies in the kitchen and rodent droppings in the storage room. The restaurant manager did not demonstrate knowledge of food safety and sanitation. Five facility or equipment violations.
Taqueria Dona Mary, 501 S. Moody St., Victoria. Demerits: 36. Improper cold hold temperature. Wash hands before handling ready to eat foods and between tasks. Drinks need lids and straws. Wash hands and wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Date label prepared food. Do not store bleach bucket in the hand sink. Store medicine for personal use away from food. Change out the bleach water when dirty. Keep bleach at 50-100 ppm. Label the bleach bucket. Review proper hand washing, date labeling, time and temperature requirements with all employees. The three-compartment sink is not draining. Do not store tortillas in trash bags. Store forks with the handles up. Repair hole in the ceiling. Five facility or equipment violations.
Texas Seafood Restaurant, 2202 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 30. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to wash hands in between tasks and also before glove use. Need to use gloves when cutting vegetables. Need to store tomatoes away from raw meat. Need to date label meat in the walk in cooler. Need paper towels at hand sink. Need to label bleach bucket. Need to clean out the ice machine and the ice dispenser at the soda machine. Clean the grease under fryers and behind fryers. Three facility or equipment violations.
China Inn, 3602 E. Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 26. Wash hands when entering kitchen from outside. Don't store personal meat in establishment. Work on covering food in walk-in cooler. Store raw fish below cooked food. Don't store uncovered items over each other. Date label all food with seven-day use-by date. Address problem with droppings found in the bar area. Need a thermometer in front of Pepsi cooler. Need to defrost meat under cold running water or in walk-in the day before. Two facility or equipment violations.
Jason's Deli, 5301 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 16. Need ingredient labels on self-serve cookies and brownies. Do not defrost food in hand sink. The drain under the prep area is not draining well. Need to clean the ice machine. Need current permit posted. Keep food six inches off the floor. Four facility or equipment violations.
Lupita's Restaurant, 906 S. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 14. Need to cover food in cooler. Work on date labeling food in cooler. Need to label bleach bucket. Need to clean the microwave and re-wash dishes. Recommend a general cleaning of the entire establishment. Two facility or equipment violations.
Athena, 3801 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Cover all food in coolers. Need to use gloves when handling tomatoes. Need cold water at hand sink at kitchen entrance.
Gone Bananas, 2202 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 10. Date label chicken salad with seven-day use-by date. Fix leak under the hand sink. Need thermometer in white refrigerator. Two facility or equipment violations.
Taco Bell No. 28008, 1602 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 9. Improper cold hold temperature. Keep employees' drinks off of the food packages.
PAGA. Lounge, 1205 E. North St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Post dishwashing procedures at the two-compartment sink. Need to label all spray bottles. One facility or equipment violation.
Church's Fried Chicken No. 1303, 4305 Ben Jordan St., Victoria. Demerits: 4. Need lid and straw on employee drinks.

Taqueria Dona Mary, 501 S. Moody St., Victoria, inspected Nov. 26 with 36 demerits. Re-inspected Nov. 27, need to wash hands before putting on gloves. Keep towels at the hand sink. Repair hole in ceiling in the kitchen. Continue to address violations. Plumbing issues have been corrected.
