BOWLING: Stacy edges Zeplin for high series

In a battle of lefthanders, Mike Stacy slipped past Steve Zeplin for the weekly high series honors.

Stacy bowled three clean games with a terrific 289 middle game during Red River League play.

He started competition with a 225 game and finished with a 238 to total 752 for the night.

Zeplin bashed the pins for games of 247, 257, and 243 in Sugar & Spice play to post a 747 set. Two misses in the three games stopped him from being high for the week.

There were several 700 sets bowled during the week with Dave Matthews taking the third high total with a terrific 290 middle game complementing a 724 total.

Also surpassing the 700 mark were Richard Brotze 257-718, Tom Crowe 288-717, Steve Dickinson 708, Don Padgett 269-707, Joey Matson 266-704, and Abel Garcia 278-702/279-692.

Other scores of note for men were Danny Reissig (267-696), Chris Martinka (691), Kevin Rosales (248-670), Eddie Gonzales (254-668), T.J. Mooney (667), Todd Pfuhl (662), Shawn Miller (255-661), B.J. Rubio (267-658), Gabe Verduzco (649), Don Marques (649), Rick Bassano (266), Craig Hoff (259), Justin Tweedle (258), Mike Wortham (258), Israel Gomez (257), and David Flores (250).

Matthews earned an 11-strikes-in-a-row award for his 290 game.

Christine Speer was the high score for the women while competing in the Monday Mixed League.

She rolled games of 216, 193, and 197 for a 606 set and also posted a 592 series in another league.

Sharon Guinn with scores of 215-601 also broke the 600 mark.

Other nice scores were Olivia Jackson 224-591 and Chris Guerra with a 234 high game.

Vera Cruz Restaurant bowlers for the week were Steve Zeplin 747 and Sharon Guinn 703, both from the Sugar & Spice League.
